Sir Paul McCartney has announced his first solo album in over five years. The Boys of Dungeon Lane will be released on May 29 and is named after the road in Speke<\/a> where the legendary Beatle spent many hours playing and bird-watching as a child.<\/p>\n

The upcoming album is named after a lyric in the song, “Days We Left Behind,” which has been released today. The 83-year-old<\/a> is in a deeply introspective mode for the new track, which is a stripped-back reflection on his childhood before he went on to change the world with the Fab Four.<\/a><\/p>\n

The iconic musician <\/a>described his latest release as being about memory. He said: “I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind, and I do often wonder if I\u2019m just writing about the past, but then I think, how can you write about anything else?<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John [Lennon] and Forthlin Road, which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke, which is quite working class.<\/p>\n

“We didn\u2019t have much at all, but it didn\u2019t matter because all the people were great, and you didn\u2019t notice you didn\u2019t have much.” Dungeon Lane has seen great change in the years since Sir Paul’s childhood, as the L24 road used to be the main access point to Oglet Shore.<\/p>\n

However, people have had to take a different route through Hale Village via Bailey’s Lane to reach the picturesque beauty spot in recent years since the perimeter fence surrounding Liverpool John Lennon Airport<\/a> was extended.<\/p>\n

The Boys of Dungeon Lane marks Paul’s 18th solo studio album and his first since McCartney III in 2020. Fans speculated the music legend was planning to announce something exciting after he shared a photo from his younger years on Instagram yesterday.<\/p>\n

This was part of a wider campaign; posters emblazoned with The Boys From Dungeon Lane’s street sign artwork have also been spotted around the city centre. Eagle-eyed McCartney fans also spotted a cryptic Easter egg if you searched for Dungeon Lane on Google Street View.<\/p>\n

An image of a boy dressed in the period clothing from Paul’s youth in post-World War II Liverpool carrying the Dungeons Lane street sign has been inserted into the frame. Fans are thrilled today (March 26) because their theories proved correct as “Days We Left Behind” received its exclusive first play on BBC<\/a> Radio Merseyside at 2.50pm.<\/p>\n

Fans will get the chance to hear 13 more new songs from one of the world’s most important musicians ever when the album drops later this spring.<\/p>\n

Paul has been working on the album over the past five years with producer Andrew Watt. The two met for a cup of tea and were experimenting with writing a song when Paul stumbled upon a new chord.<\/p>\n

The music legend built on this chord to create the opening song on the debut album, “As You Lie There.” Other song titles include similarly reflective names such as “Ripples In A Pond” and “Lost Horizon”, as the album promises to be a moving reflection on Paul’s early life in Liverpool and how it shaped him.<\/p>\n
