Sony is scrapping the PSN brand<\/a> and it doesn\u2019t look like it\u2019ll be getting a new name.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week<\/a>, we pointed out how the PSN Status Page on PlayStation.com<\/a> was edited late last year to remove any mention of the PlayStation Network.<\/p>\n

And now we\u2019ve noticed a similar thing in the PS5 settings.<\/p>\n

If you browse to Settings > Network you\u2019ll get an overview of your connection status. But where this used to read \u2018PlayStation Network: Signed In\u2019 it now reads \u2018PlayStation: Signed In\u2019.<\/p>\n

The PSN logo has also been removed from the image, while the list of options below reads \u2018View Service Status\u2019 and not \u2018View PlayStation Network Status\u2019 like it used to.<\/p>\n

This practically confirms to us that there\u2019s no rebrand planned here; the PSN name is simply being completely phased out. It seems from now on you\u2019ll simply have a PlayStation account.<\/p>\n

As we pointed out in a recent article<\/a>, the PSN name has largely become redundant over the past few years. It\u2019s only ever really referenced when Sony\u2019s servers are down.<\/p>\n

We do wonder how long the name will remain a common reference point for players. As we pointed out last week when Sony\u2019s servers briefly went offline, we saw a huge increase in traffic from the search term \u2018PSN Down\u2019.<\/p>\n

Perhaps in the future people will simply search \u2018PS5 Down\u2019. Of course, we imagine Sony\u2019s hoping to have as little downtime as possible.<\/p>\n
