{"id":497106,"date":"2026-03-26T21:48:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T21:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/497106\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T21:48:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T21:48:11","slug":"tate-modern-opens-largest-ever-exhibition-of-tracey-emins-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/497106\/","title":{"rendered":"Tate Modern opens largest ever exhibition of Tracey Emin&#8217;s work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/tate-modern\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tate Modern<\/a> has launched a landmark exhibition of British artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/tracey-emin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tracey Emin<\/a>&#8216;s work, shown in this one-minute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/videos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> produced by Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0partnership with fashion house <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/gucci\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gucci<\/a>, Tate Modern presented the largest ever survey exhibition of Emin&#8217;s work to date.<\/p>\n<p>Tracey Emin&#8217;s exhibition at the Tate Modern is open to the public now<\/p>\n<p>Titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/whats-on\/tate-modern\/tracey-emin\/tracey-emin-a-second-life\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tracey Emin: A Second Life<\/a>, the exhibition spans 40 years of Emin&#8217;s practice, comprising over 100 works across the mediums of painting, video, installation, textiles and sculpture.<\/p>\n<p>The show traces Emin&#8217;s early works from her first solo exhibition at the White Cube, and through the height of the Young British Artists (YBA) era in the late 1980s and 1990s.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2301740\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Tracey-Emin-article-1-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Bed installation in centre of dark room\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>My Bed is one of Emin&#8217;s most well-known artworks<\/p>\n<p>Included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/exhibitions-tag\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exhibition<\/a> are some of Emin&#8217;s most notable works from this period such as My Bed, a 1998 artwork which recreates Emin&#8217;s bedroom during a depressive episode, with objects like underwear, condoms and medicine scattered around the bed.<\/p>\n<p>Emin worked often in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/textiles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">textiles<\/a>, with several quilt and calico pieces on display within the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>A 2002 textile work &#8220;The Last of the Gold&#8221;, embroidered with advice for women undergoing abortions will be shown publicly for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2301741\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Tracey-Emin-A-Second-Life-at-Tate-Modern-installation-view-The-Last-of-the-Gold-2002.-Photo-\u00a9-Tate-S.jpeg\" alt=\"Embroidered quilt with A to Z and smaller messages\" width=\"1980\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Emin&#8217;s textile work often address topics such as violence towards women and trauma<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition continues through Emin&#8217;s career, up to her contemporary work in sculpture, photography and painting.<\/p>\n<p>Exhibited recent works address Emin&#8217;s experiences of disability and cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>A bronze <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/sculptures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sculpture<\/a> titled Ascension explores Emin&#8217;s relationship with her own body after undergoing major surgery, and in the Tate Modern courtyard an imposing bronze sculpture of a folded female body can be found.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2301746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Tracey-Emin-article-2-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Exhibition visitor looking at figurative bronze sculpture\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Several of Emin&#8217;s recent sculpture works are featured in the exhibition<\/p>\n<p>Previously Tate Modern has hosted exhibitions on notable figures in art and design such as performance artist and designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/whats-on\/tate-modern\/leigh-bowery\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leigh Bowery<\/a> and architecturally-informed artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/04\/30\/do-ho-suhs-installations-walk-the-house\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Do Ho Suh.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The photography is by Jai Monaghan, Sonal Bakrania and Yili Liu, courtsey of Tate.
