\n\tAndrew Garfield<\/a> has revealed that he recently watched the Harry Potter<\/a> movies for the first time, but said he did so knowing that it was \u201ccontroversial.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe British-American actor, who is promoting The Magic Faraway Tree, said investing in the Potter universe would ultimately reward \u201cshe that shall remain nameless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with Hits Radio show My Life In Movies, Garfield did not name J.K. Rowling<\/a> or reference the transgender rights debate directly, but he did allude to interventions she had made on the issue.<\/p>\n

\n\tHere\u2019s his full quote: \u201cI hadn\u2019t watched the Harry Potters until recently \u2026 and he\u2019s [Daniel Radcliffe] really good in those Harry Potter movies. Those Harry Potter movies were really good.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI know it\u2019s like controversial. And like, we shouldn\u2019t be \u2014 you know \u2014 putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislation right now through she that shall remain nameless. But the soul and the spirit of a lot of the essence of the themes of those films, and the kids are so good.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHis reference to \u201clegislation\u201d likely relates to Rowling\u2019s financial donations to the campaign group For Women Scotland, which brought a legal challenge over how the word \u201cwoman\u201d is defined in UK equality law. It resulted in a 2025 Supreme Court ruling that the definition of woman refers to biological sex.<\/p>\n

\n\tGarfield\u2019s comments come in the same week that HBO<\/a> released a trailer and other materials for the new Harry Potter television series. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be incredible,\u201d Rowling said on X\/Twitter on Thursday. \u201cI\u2019m so happy with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
