Coronation Street viewers issued the same complaint as the soap has been removed from tonight’s TV schedule. The soap usually airs weekdays at 8.30pm, but fans will miss out on tonight’s instalment as it has been taken off the schedule due to sports coverage on ITV1.

ITV’s coverage of England vs Uruguay begins at 7pm, ready for a 7.45pm kick-off time on Friday, March 27. This means both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air in their usual time slots.

Soap fans are not happy with the decision to remove Coronation Street from the schedule and took to social media to express their opinions.

One said: “Oh for goodness sake we miss out again!” while a second said: “There’s loads of sports channels where football is shown every single day so I just don’t get it!”

A third said: “With all the extra channels nowadays surely they could just put the soaps on one of them instead of not being on at all every time some sport is on.”

A fourth said: “ITV really needs to have a channel called ITVSports” while another added: “Surely just upload on ITVX? Then we can watch anytime.”

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Viewers will be pleased to know they won’t fall short this week, as ITV have scheduled an additional episode to air on Sunday instead.

Emmerdale will air at the earlier time of 7pm on Sunday, March 29 shortly followed by Coronation Street at 7.30pm on ITV1, to make up for Friday’s missing episodes.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the end of the schedule changes on ITV. Coronation Street airs as normal on Monday, but no episode will air on Tuesday (March 31). The same applies for Emmerdale.

Coverage of England vs Japan will be broadcast live from Wembley Stadium. The broadcast begins at 7pm ready for a 7.45pm kick-off time.

For the second week in a row, Coronation Street will air on a Sunday evening to make up for the missing episode. It will air on Sunday April, 5.

Thankfully, the soap continues in its normal schedule the following week – airing Monday to Friday at 8.30pm on ITV1.

Coronation Street airs weekdays at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX

For the latest TV and showbiz stories, head to the Liverpool ECHO website.
