Tom Pidcock (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) crashed off the road and down into a ravine at Volta a Catalunya (2.UWT) today, Friday, saying nobody knew he was there and that he was lucky to avoid serious injury.<\/p>\n
He managed to alert his team via race radio and was able to get out, get back on his bike and finish the stage. However, he was way back in 116th, some 29:04 on stage winner and new race leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike).<\/p>\n
Pidcock’s incident happened in the latter stages of the race, with about 30km to go on the descent of the Collada Sobirana.<\/p>\n
“Today I lost a life for sure,” Pidcock said. “I’m going to self-proclaim as a ninja crasher, 60kph off a mountain and I’m relatively OK.”<\/p>\n
\u201cI was drinking on the descent and misjudged a corner. I overshot it and went down the ravine. It was like one of these horror crashes you see, but I\u2019m very lucky that I am okay.\u201d<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ll go for a check, but I think I\u2019m okay. I am lucky I could talk on the radio. I was far from the road and nobody knew I was there. I\u2019m happy I could finish the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom Pidcock took in Insta to share the location where he crashed, saying he was declaring it a ‘Ninja’ 60km per hour crash<\/p>\n
Pidcock needed a change of bike after the incident, but his team has said initial assessments appear to indicate no serious injury. It added the British rider “went off the road after misjudging a corner, in what was a significant fall down a ravine”.<\/p>\n
