The England international delivered a total of 28 points on the night, including a hat-trick.

Lewis produced a pinpoint kick to the corner for Joe Burgess to open the scoring inside the opening two minutes, the winger leaping highest in front of a sold-out crowd.

Hull KR suffocated the visitors defensively, and Lewis soon turned from provider to scorer, collecting an Oliver Gildart grubber before dancing past four defenders to cross.

Playing with confidence and intent, the Robins extended their lead when Lewis added a penalty goal to make it 12-0 after 19 minutes.

Jez Litten then opened his try-scoring account, backing up a break from Tyrone May, who sliced through the Saints’ line and left Shane Wright grasping at thin air.

Burgess grabbed his second soon after, racing clear out wide, beating Harry Robertson and leaving Tristan Sailor stranded at full-back to stretch the lead to 24-0.

Lewis – already boasting two assists and a try – added another of his own before the break, capitalising on a slick Jai Whitbread offload near the line to cap a stunning first-half display at 30-0.

St Helens, doing it tough without the likes of Alex Walmsley, Jack Welsby, Jacob Host, Jonny Lomax, Kyle Feldt, Nene Macdonald and captain Matty Lees, finally responded immediately after the restart. Prop Noah Stephens powered through Lewis before releasing Owen Dagnall, who beat Jack Broadbent and Whitbread on his way to the try line.

However, Hull KR quickly reasserted control. Burgess completed his hat-trick, proving too strong and too quick for Dagnall and Robertson once again on the left edge after Broadbent had won a penalty for a ball steal.

Lewis, in red-hot form, then completed his own hat-trick and finished the match with eight goals from 10 attempts in a standout individual performance – named the official player of the match.

Further tries from James Batchelor – his first of the season – and Whitbread took Hull KR past the 50-point mark, rounding off a display that could prove to be the catalyst for their season, with Wright grabbing a late consolation for a 52-10 final score.

Hull KR: Jack Broadbent, Tom Davies, Peta Hiku, Oliver Gildart, Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis, Tyrone May, Sauaso Sue, Jez Litten, Tom Amone, Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, Elliot Minchella.

Bench: Sam Luckley, Jai Whitbread, Jack Brown, Noah Booth.

Tries: Burgess (2’, 27’, 47’), Lewis (10’, 33’, 52’), Litten (23’), Batchelor (57′) Whitbread (62’).

Goals: Lewis 8/10

St Helens: Harry Robertson, Owen Dagnall, Mark Percival, Deon Cross, Lewis Murphy, Tristan Sailor, Jackson Hastings, David Klemmer, Jake Wingfield, George Delaney, Shaune Wright, Matt Whitley, Joe Shorrocks.

Bench: Daryl Clark, Agnatius Paasi, Noah Stephens, Jake Davies.

Tries: Dagnall (42’), Wright (72′)

Goals: Hastings 1/2

Attendance: 12,169

Hull KR with a statement win over St Helens.
