Jannik Sinner<\/a> has had his say after Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> suggested they could team up to beat two top-ranked padel players. After suffering a shock early exit at the Miami Open<\/a>, the seven-time Grand Slam champion hung around the city and attended the Miami P1 padel tournament. And the Spanish superstar believes he and Sinner would be able to switch sports and still do better than the padel pros.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz was asked how they\u2019d fare against Arturo Coella and Agustin Tapia, the joint-ranked No. 1s in the International Padel Federation rankings \u2013 and he felt confident. \u201cSinner and I against Coello and Tapia in padel? We would win, without a doubt,\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n

While Alcaraz lost early in Miami, 2024 champion Sinner has made it to the semi-finals without dropping a set, and is now two wins away from completing the \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 \u2013 winning Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back. And the world No. 1\u2019s comments were put to his Italian rival during a post-match interview with Tennis Channel.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said that you and him would be undefeated in padel as a doubles team, what do you think about that?\u201d Steve Weissman asked the second seed. But Sinner wasn\u2019t so convinced.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he says so, he needs to run and play for both [of us] because me and padel, I\u2019m not great!\u201d Sinner joked. \u201cBut we all know what Carlos is capable of doing in every sport. He\u2019s playing good golf, good padel, obviously an amazing tennis player.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the four-time Major winner wanted to leave the padel to Alcaraz, he offered to step up in another sport on their behalf. Sinner was a top junior skier in Italy before pivoting to tennis, and he added: \u201cSkiing, I do for both [of us].\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, Sinner remains focused on the tennis in Miami, where he has yet to drop a set on his way to the last four. He will now face Alexander Zverev<\/a> or Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the championship match.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo different players with different qualities. We are trying to understand what\u2019s the best game plan, trying to be in the best possible shape tomorrow, and we will see how it goes,\u201d Sinner said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it\u2019s going to be, of course, tough. But at the same time, I\u2019m happy to play semis here.
