Former Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson has issued a statement following his departure from the club last weekend.<\/p>\n

The news broke on Sunday, March 22, that Robinson had been relieved from his duties<\/a> after 20 months in charge, starting as an interim before being handed the reigns permanently.<\/p>\n

Whilst the Giants had suffered a Super League start that consisted of no wins in the opening five, injuries again had significantly hampered the club with the side having as many as 15 injuries in the squad in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

Given the club\u2019s ambitions, and chairman Ken Davy\u2019s goal of reaching a Grand Final within the next three years, the Giants opted to part ways with the former half-back in the hope they can bring someone else in to deliver success on and off the field.<\/p>\n

The deadline for expressions of interest for the vacant head coach role is today, March 28, with Huddersfield set to review the potential candidates over the coming days and weeks.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Robinson has thanked everyone who has supported him both as a Huddersfield player and coach in the 19 years he has been associated with the club.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old wishes the club nothing but the best for the future, though does believe that the timing of his exit could have been better, given that a number of their injured stars were on the verge of returning \u2013 something that would have given Robinson a fairer test as head coach, rather than him being judged on playing with a significantly under-strength side.<\/p>\n

Robinson\u2019s statement, posted on X<\/a>, reads in full:<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the response I\u2019ve received from the rugby league community over the past few days, it would feel uncharacteristic not to thank the fans\/friends who have reached out with messages of support following my departure from the Giants after 19 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I fully understand that this is a results-driven environment, the opening five games have not delivered the outcomes we all expected, however, the timing of my departure is particularly difficult, given we were on the eve of welcoming back key members of our starting line-up \u2013 players we believed would have a significant impact on performances and results moving forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also believe it is important to recognise the broader context of the past 18 months. Much of the work I\u2019ve done during this period has focused on rebuilding the culture of the club, the playing group in particular \u2013 establishing standards, behaviours, and small but meaningful changes that I believed would create a strong foundation for sustained success.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has not always been immediately visible in results, but it has been central to the long-term strategy. I leave with immense pride in the years I have dedicated to the club, and with gratitude to the players, performance staff, and supporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am confident that the groundwork laid will benefit the club in the future. I hope the Giants can make the off field changes necessary to get a competitive team out on the field consistently, giving the loyal Giants fans something to sing about.\u201d<\/p>\n
