Tottenham Hotspur would accept a price for Dominic Solanke that’s £15million less than they paid for him two years ago, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old remains an important part of Spurs’ plans for the long-term future and they are reluctant to see him leave at the end of the season.

However, the club are aware that they will struggle to hold on to their best players if they are relegated, with just one point separating them from West Ham.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, sources say Thomas Tuchel handing Solanke an England call-up will boost his price tag.

Solanke started England’s 1-1 draw against Uruguay on 27 March, and while his performances will have done little to impress suitors, Tottenham are bracing for offers.

Tottenham plan to prevent Dominic Solanke exit

Football Insider revealed on 10 March that Newcastle are interested in signing Solanke should he become available, as they plan to sign a new striker.

However, Spurs are reluctant to entertain offers for the forward, particularly from Premier League rivals despite what has been a miserable season.

A £50million price tag could ward off his suitors, although it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be able to stick to that price all summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “It’s a difficult one. They’ve missed him this season due to his injury problems. He’s been a big miss.

“He’s still a top player and he is part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad where he’ll be hoping he can impress and book a ticket for the World Cup.

“For Tottenham, he’s under contract until 2030, so they’re under no real massive pressure to sell him under a long-term contract.

“Spurs paid big money for Solanke when they signed him from Bournemouth, it was around £65million, so they’ll be looking to recoup as much as possible.

“They would still be looking at top money, probably £50 million for a player who is in the England squad and again on his day as a proven Premier League striker.”

Tottenham plot move to sign striker reinforcements

Amid speculation surrounding the long-term future of Solanke, Tottenham are prepared to step up efforts to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.

Any deal is unlikely to depend on the England international’s departure, with a new centre-forward having been a long-term target, but they could be forced into the move.

Football Insider revealed on 21 March that Tottenham are interested in signing Jonathan David from Juventus and are keeping a close eye on his situation.

The 26-year-old moved to Turin from Lille last summer but has so far failed to stake his claim for a regular position in the starting XI.

Spurs have been long-term admirers of the Canada international and could now make a move, although it will depend on their Premier League survival.
