{"id":503743,"date":"2026-03-30T16:44:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T16:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/503743\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T16:44:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T16:44:10","slug":"leeds-rhinos-pay-tribute-as-rob-burrows-father-geoff-burrow-passes-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/503743\/","title":{"rendered":"Leeds Rhinos pay tribute as Rob Burrow&#8217;s father Geoff Burrow passes away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/AM20155-3.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"Leeds Rhinos\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The family of rugby league legend Rob Burrow have suffered another tragedy after the death today of the late former Leeds Rhinos player\u2019s father Geoff Burrow.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Geoff, a lifelong Rhinos fan, spent his career supporting others in his role as a trade union representative and became known nationally for his motor neurone disease campaigning after Rob was diagnosed with the illness in 2019.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Rob died two years ago, leaving widow Lindsey and children Jackson, Macy and Maya, as well as his parents Geoff and Irene. A club statement said: \u201cIt is with deep sadness that the club has learnt of the passing on Monday 30th\u00a0March of Geoff Burrow, the father of Rob Burrow, after a period of ill health.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cLeeds-born Geoff was a tireless campaigner for the MND community following Rob\u2019s diagnosis in December 2019 and continued that work after Rob\u2019s passing in June 2024.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cA devoted husband, father and a grandfather, Geoff brought Rob to his first ever game at Headingley and started his love of the Rhinos.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cGeoff was always a champion for those who did not have a voice throughout his career as a trade union representative.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe club would like to pass on our deepest condolences to Geoff\u2019s wife Irene and the Burrow family at this sad time. We would like to ask that the family are given privacy at this time. May he rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Geoff Burrow was\u00a0project manager and sports officer and branch secretary at the\u00a0GMB union\u2019s sports section.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">News of Geoff Burrow\u2019s death prompted a surge of love and support from the rugby league community. Hull FC, Hull KR, Bradford Bulls, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors were among the Super League clubs to voice their sadness on social media, alongside the sport\u2019s governing body the RFL.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Dozens of fans also responded, along with past players including Rob Burrow\u2019s former Leeds teammates Barrie McDermott and Ryan Bailey and St Helens legend Paul Sculthorpe.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sculthorpe wrote: \u201cHeartbreaking news.
