{"id":503965,"date":"2026-03-30T19:47:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T19:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/503965\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T19:47:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T19:47:13","slug":"match-report-kent-vs-oxford-ucce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/503965\/","title":{"rendered":"Match Report: Kent vs. Oxford UCCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of the start of the 2026 Rothesay County Championship this Friday, Kent Men completed their pre-season schedule with a three-day University Match against Oxford UCCE at the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baylissexecutivetravel.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kent\u2019s 2026 pre-season schedule was proudly sponsored by Bayliss Executive Travel Ltd.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben Compton &amp; Sam Northeast both scored centuries as Kent drew with Oxford UCCE at the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day University Match took on a unique shape as all of Kent Men\u2019s available First XI players were able to contribute in the field, but only 11 players from each side were permitted to bat.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"button theme-c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kentcricket.co.uk\/fixture\/kent-vs-oxford-ucce\/?tab=m_summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">View video scorecard<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After choosing to bat first on Day One, Kent got off to a healthy start \u2013 openers Ben Compton &amp; Zak Crawley put on 65 for the opening wicket in just 21.1 overs before Crawley was out lbw to Dunlop for 29.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Northeast, who re-joined the county from Glamorgan this Winter, was in at three and he quickly showed his class back in a Kent shirt \u2013 putting on a partnership of 152 with Compton, who eventually retired out on 106.<\/p>\n<p>Northeast too retired out after making 101 from 148, his first century back in a Kent shirt since 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Tawanda Muyeye made 77 not out from 120 and Grant Stewart 53 not out from 62 as the Spitfires declared their first innings on 402\/4 overnight after Day One.<\/p>\n<p>Another returning player in Matt Milnes, who re-signed for Kent from Yorkshire this off-season, got the Spitfires off to a strong start with the ball on Day Two. Faleel mistimed a drive to find the waiting hands of Joey Evison, who became Kent\u2019s second wicket-taker of the innings when a low delivery removed Waheed lbw for 24.<\/p>\n<p>Keith Dudgeon bowled for the first time since his return to Kent for the whole season and took two wickets for just 12 runs in six overs \u2013 bowling Gallman-Findlay for 1 and producing a mistimed hook shot from Cheater into the hands of Matt Quinn.<\/p>\n<p>Milnes, Evison and Mikey Cohen also took two wickets apiece as Oxford UCCE posted 157 in their first innings, still trailing Kent by 245 runs.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Day Three\u2019s sunny start, clouds gathered overhead for the start of play at 11:00am.
