{"id":504091,"date":"2026-03-30T21:29:25","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T21:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/504091\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T21:29:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T21:29:25","slug":"what-can-you-put-in-your-bins-ahead-of-collection-changes-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/504091\/","title":{"rendered":"What can you put in your bins ahead of collection changes?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The councils of North Norfolk, Breckland and South Norfolk are expected to conduct weekly food waste collections by April.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Despite the April deadline, Great Yarmouth Borough Council has warned it will not be able to collect food scraps this soon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It estimates this might not be possible until 2027 due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/25841639.great-yarmouth-council-warns-waste-collections-face-delays\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">problems with sourcing new vehicles and waste bins<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Councils have to start collecting food waste from April (Image: Newsquest)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  West Norfolk, Broadland and Norwich councils already collect food waste.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It comes as new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/24949969.new-recycling-rules-end-bin-collection-postcode-lottery\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Simpler Recycling reforms<\/a> are being implemented across all local authorities in England by the government.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Despite the date of changes being March 31, all councils in Norfolk have been accepting the same materials in home recycling bins since 2014.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  To help people prepare, here is a guide on what people can put in their bins from next month.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Recycling bin<\/p>\n<p>Newspapers, magazines and telephone directories<\/p>\n<p>  Paper and clean cardboard<\/p>\n<p>  Plastic bottles (such as drinks, detergent, shampoo and plastic milk bottles &#8211; leave the lids on)<\/p>\n<p>  Steel and aluminium food and drinks cans<\/p>\n<p>  Empty aerosols<\/p>\n<p>  Glass bottles and jars (leave the tops on)<\/p>\n<p>  Plastic food pots, tubs and trays (such as yoghurt pots, ice cream containers and margarine tubs)<\/p>\n<p>  Waxed cartons and Tetra Paks (such as those used for juices and soups)<\/p>\n<p>  Foil and foil trays<\/p>\n<p>  Shredded paper<\/p>\n<p>  Envelopes (including window type), greetings cards and junk mail<\/p>\n<p>  Wrapping paper<\/p>\n<p>  Leftover food waste caddy<\/p>\n<p>Leftovers<\/p>\n<p>  Fruit and vegetable peelings and cores<\/p>\n<p>  Egg shells and salad<\/p>\n<p>  Coffee grounds and teabags<\/p>\n<p>  Meat and fish (including bones), cooked and uncooked<\/p>\n<p>  Out-of-date or mouldy food<\/p>\n<p>  General rubbish bin<\/p>\n<p>\n  Use your rubbish bin for anything that doesn\u2019t go in your recycling bins or food waste caddy.
