Manchester United are preparing for a big summer rebuild this summer as they close in on qualifying for next season’s Champions League competition.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils currently sit third in the Premier League after an excellent run of seven wins in ten games under interim manager Michael Carrick, who is now understood to be in pole position<\/a> to secure the job on a permanent basis as a result of his performance so far.<\/p>\n

The legendary former midfielder has already got a head start on evaluating the squad ahead of the upcoming transfer window, and it has now emerged that he is targeting the addition of a new full-back.<\/p>\n

Man Utd Eyeing Denzel Dumfries Deal<\/p>\n

According to a report by L’Interista<\/a>, Man Utd are ready to trigger the release clause of Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries to bolster their squad.<\/p>\n

Dumfries, who has been described as ‘world-class’<\/a>, has been a key member of the Inter squad in recent seasons, helping them reach the Champions League final last year. But so far this season he has lost his starting spot and been dealing with a number of injuries, which has seen his future come under question.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands international signed a new contract at the San Siro back in 2024, keeping him at the club until 2028, but the deal included a release clause worth just \u00a321.7m to allow him the opportunity to move if clubs showed an interest.<\/p>\n

United are understood to be keen to bring the 29-year-old in to provide more experience and attacking impetus in their side, and the fee is not believed to be an issue, while personal terms are also believed to be easily agreed.<\/p>\n

Inter want to keep him at the club and have offered him a one-year extension to remove the clause, but it remains to be seen if he will look to stay or embark on a new journey.<\/p>\n

Man Utd Don’t Need Dumfries Deal<\/p>\n

While Dumfries has great qualities and experience, this isn’t a deal that Man Utd need this summer.<\/p>\n

The midfield has been made into a priority by the club, which will likely see a large chunk of their budget used up, while a new left-winger and left-back are also understood to be top targets to add to the squad.<\/p>\n

Right-back is one of the positions that Man Utd are strongest in currently, with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui both playing at a high level and in the prime of their careers. Dumfries is better going forward than defending, and wouldn’t be an upgrade on current options, so this feels like a deal to avoid.<\/p>\n
