St Helens and Wigan Warriors face off on Good Friday with both teams on the back of a loss and without several key players.

Being without key players has been the tale of St Helens’ season but it was only in round six that it truly caught up to them as they were hammered 52-10 by a relentless Hull KR side.

Wigan have also been without star duo Jai Field and Bevan French and that seemed to catch up with them this past weekend as the Warriors lost their unbeaten start to the season, suffering a loss to the previously winless Huddersfield Giants.

St Helens picked up yet another injury concern in their loss to Hull KR but it’s thought that Wigan came through unscathed with only their egos bruised.

We’ve taken a look at the injury status of each club, including who is out and which players will be doubts for Friday’s derby clash.

St Helens injury news

The core group of St Helens’ injured players are out long-term with Jack Welsby (shoulder), Matty Lees (knee), Jacob Host (leg) and Jake Burns (ankle) all likely out for a while.

Curtis Sironen (calf) and Nene Macdonald (knee) were given six week timelines in mid-March so they’re both expected to miss out, whilst Paul Rowley said last week that Alex Walmsley (foot) and Jonny Lomax (wrist) were those on the injury list who were closest to a return, though it’s still expected to be too early for that pair.

Mark Percival had been struggling with a leg issue prior to the Hull KR game and was withdrawn at half-time so he’s a doubt, whilst Kyle Feldt is set to serve the third and final match of his ban.

George Whitby is set to be a welcome return after previously missing out due to a HIA whilst the club have also confirmed the additions of Hull KR duo Bill Leyland and Jordan Dezaria on a short-term loan basis.

Wigan Warriors injury news

Wigan’s injury list is shorted but still very significant in that they’re missing three of their starting backs, as well as their major signing for 2026.

Jai Field had appendix surgery earlier in the month and isn’t expected to return but does remain a possibility, whereas Bevan French (hamstring) and Jake Wardle (knee) are both long-term injuries.

So to is Oliver Wilson with the forward out all year with an ACL injury whilst Abbas Miski is still sidelined after hamstring surgery in the off-season and knee issues.
