The BBC have assessed the new details over the last few days and made the decision to terminate Scott Mills\u2019 contract, saying ‘he had to go’<\/p>\n

Friends close to Scott Mills<\/a> are said to be worried for the presenter after his Radio 2 sacking, saying ‘the job was his life’.<\/p>\n

This week, the Mirror<\/a> revealed how Mills had been axed from his position on the Breakfast Show, which he had previously said was his ‘dream of a lifetime.’ After just over a year in the role, BBC<\/a> bosses felt they had no choice but to give him the boot with the decision relating to a previous 2016 police investigation<\/a>, and the-then teenage boy at the centre of it.<\/p>\n

Last night we revealed that new information was disclosed<\/a> involving the same person, however these claims are different to the investigation into serious sexual offences from ten years ago.<\/p>\n

After his last show on Tuesday 24 March, Mills told listeners ‘See you tomorrow’, but never returned to air. He has not been seen or heard of since with his social media profiles still saying he works for BBC Radio 2. An insider last night shared a glimpse of how Mills is coping.<\/p>\n

A friend said he is devastated by his sacking after \u201ctense\u201d talks with BBC bosses. The pal said: \u201cThe show was his life and he is facing oblivion. It\u2019s hard to see how he comes back at this moment in time.\u201d Friends were said to be \u201ctotally in the dark\u201d about the sacking over the weekend, and some say they are unable to get in touch with him. One said: \u201cEveryone is worried about him.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he landed the top broadcasting position following Zoe Balls’ exit, Scott had said: \u201cIt feels ever since recording my first shows as a kid for an audience of one, my mum, all roads since have led to this amazing opportunity. It really is a lifelong dream come true to follow in the footsteps of Sir Terry, Chris [Evans] and Zoe to be the new presenter of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

This week colleague Jeremy Vine<\/a> sparked outrage after questioning whether Mills\u2019 dismissal was unfair. Speaking during a Radio 2 call he said: \u201cThe whole point is there wasn\u2019t a crime, and that\u2019s where this gets difficult, the Met have been over it and there is no crime. The CPS looked at it. Therefore we are dealing with something you would call misbehaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mirror broke news of Mills\u2019 sacking on Monday morning following a police investigation. They said: \u201cIn December 2016, the Met began an investigation following a referral from another police force. The investigation related to allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy reported to have taken place between 1997 and 2000.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of these enquiries a man who was in his 40s at the time of the interview was questioned by police under caution in July 2018. A full file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, who determined the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges. Following this, the investigation was closed in May 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source close to the BBC would only confirm that a complainant had made a historical allegation, and they acted \u201cquickly and decisively\u201d. The BBC is understood have updated the complainant following Mills\u2019 sacking, and are in contact with him.<\/p>\n

Mills, 53, took over the breakfast show from Zoe Bal<\/a> l last year. The latest Rajar figures showed an average of 6.47 million listeners a week between October and December, his highest figure since he started. The BBC annual report in July 2025 revealed he earned between \u00a3355,000 and \u00a3359,999 a year.<\/p>\n

Mills began his BBC career on Radio 1 in the late 1990s as the early breakfast host, before presenting weekend slots and an early evening show as maternity cover for Sara Cox. When Cox did not return, the programme was renamed The Scott Mills Show. In 2022, he joined Radio 2, replacing Steve Wright<\/a> in his weekday afternoon slot. He appeared on Strictly in 2014 and won Celebrity Race Across The World with his husband in 2024. This month, Mills appeared in a Traitors-themed sketch on Comic Relief<\/a>.
