{"id":506851,"date":"2026-04-01T09:42:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T09:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/506851\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T09:42:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T09:42:13","slug":"the-lowry-academy-makes-history-with-lowry-painting-loan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/506851\/","title":{"rendered":"The Lowry Academy makes history with Lowry painting loan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Pupils at The Lowry Academy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/local-news\/little-hulton-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Little Hulton<\/a> have had the unique chance to see his artwork in the classroom after the painting was sent out on loan.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The streetscape went on display at the Lowry Academy on loan from the Tate for a series of arts and careers workshops.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  It is the first time the gallery has loaned a work from its collection to a school.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The painting, Dwelling Ordsall Lane, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/local-news\/salford-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Salford<\/a> 1927, shows a crowd of children on the corner of a street.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  Helen Legg, director of Tate Liverpool and Tate\u2019s National Partnerships, said: \u201cTate\u2019s collection of art is a national resource and it must be shared right across the country and beyond.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThat mission is the reason Tate Liverpool was set up in the 1980s and it remains at the heart of Tate\u2019s work today.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe lend hundreds of artworks to UK venues large and small every year, and I\u2019m delighted that we have been able to bring a painting by one of our best-loved artists to the school that bears his name.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  Students at the school, named in honour of the artist, took part in activities including creating responses to the painting and learning about the skills needed to deliver an art exhibition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Arts minister Ian Murray said: \u201cThere\u2019s every chance that the next iconic artist of a generation is growing up in Salford right now, and this first ever loan from the Tate to a school is the perfect chance to inspire Salford\u2019s young people and ignite the creativity that\u2019s inside each and every one of them.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  School principal Claire Coy said the pupils had \u201cthoroughly enjoyed\u201d seeing the artwork.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: \u201cWe are so proud to be the first ever school to host a piece of art from the Tate, and none other than a painting created by the artist after whom our school is named.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/25164116.lowry-360-experience-brings-famous-football-painting-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lowry<\/a> is known for his urban landscapes with \u201cmatchstick\u201d figures of people.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In 2024, his painting Sunday Afternoon sold for almost \u00a36.3 million at auction.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Going to the Match depicted fans walking to Bolton <a href=\"http:\/\/theboltonnews.co.uk\/wanderers?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wanderers<\/a>&#8216;
