There needs to be more support in every form, not less in Cornwall.”

Sammie D writes: “They’ve already been closed, and NHS staff and clients still don’t know what will replace them. The council only told them last week that the new providers had pulled out. That leaves staff without placements and clients without services. Clients at Trelil Court in Bodmin only received letters on Friday telling them to sign up to adult social care within five days or risk getting no support at all.”

Emma M writes: “As a carer, I see and hear first hand how this is affecting people’s mental health. It’s not something that can be ignored or brushed aside, these services are genuinely needed. At the same time, council tax keeps rising, with a portion for adult social care, so where is the money going?”

Alice R agrees: “This was done without any formal explanation, contingency plan or involvement of us as service users. Consultations were held last year with both staff and service users which demonstrated the vital support and positive impact these services provided however these appear to have been completely ignored and the words twisted. This action has been completely disrespectful, lacking in compassion and highly short-sighted for everyone on the receiving end. An appalling move for a service which alleges to put people’s mental health first.”

Petra L adds: “That’s really sad news. Services are already struggling due to understaffing, low pay for frontline workers, and cuts to NHS funding. At the same time, mental health is worsening because of insecure work, high rents, and limited job opportunities. This will place even more pressure on both statutory and non statutory services to meet complex needs they may not be equipped to handle.”

Mitchy R points out: “Just to be clear, none of us said the buildings were unsuitable, we wanted them to stay open. They were shut with almost no notice, likely because they knew it would cause distress and backlash. We’ve been left with nothing to replace this vital support and treated with zero compassion, even dismissed by the very service we turned to for help. It’s disgraceful.”

Andrea R agrees: “This is a terrible decision. Mental health support in Kernow has been diabolically bad for years. We need much more support, not less.”

Red thinks: “The more I read about these ‘trusts’, the more I think they’re anything but trustworthy. Everything surrounding health should not be left in the hands of private entities that appear and disappear so easily.”

Justice4cornwall warns: “Watch A and E departments become overwhelmed as a result of these closures. When vital community support is removed, people have nowhere else to turn, so more will end up in crisis and seeking emergency care. This will only add further strain to already stretched services.”

What are your thoughts on these closures and the lack of a clear replacement? Share your comments below in our comments section.

Want the latest Cornwall breaking news and top stories first?

Get all the latest stories, sent straight to your WhatsApp – all you need to do is click the link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/CKObHkgJF4T5fRZxiGdYqdWe also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
