After all, how many production companies and movie studios approach collaborators by sliding into their DMs and asking for space pics? Several months and a binding non-disclosure agreement later, his images would appear on the silver screen as a magnificent backdrop for the credits of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/project-hail-mary-release-date-plot-cast-and-everything-we-know-about-ryan-goslings-mission-to-save-the-world\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/project-hail-mary-release-date-plot-cast-and-everything-we-know-about-ryan-goslings-mission-to-save-the-world\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/project-hail-mary-release-date-plot-cast-and-everything-we-know-about-ryan-goslings-mission-to-save-the-world\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Project Hail Mary<\/a>, the Ryan Gosling-fronted adaptation of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/10-major-differences-between-the-project-hail-mary-book-and-movie\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/10-major-differences-between-the-project-hail-mary-book-and-movie\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/10-major-differences-between-the-project-hail-mary-book-and-movie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Weir&#8217;s beloved novel of the same name<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-bac23a27-8928-4c36-be45-a5b6fca6c7fc-2\">Project Hail Mary launched to both critical acclaim and impressive box office earnings earlier in March. More impressively, it managed to maintain a sense of charm and wonder at the cosmos throughout its 156-minute runtime that compelled us here at Space.com to praise it as the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/project-hail-mary-is-an-optimistic-look-towards-the-stars-and-we-need-that-right-now-review\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/project-hail-mary-is-an-optimistic-look-towards-the-stars-and-we-need-that-right-now-review\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/project-hail-mary-is-an-optimistic-look-towards-the-stars-and-we-need-that-right-now-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">optimistic look towards the stars that humanity needs right now<\/a>. The film also drew heavily from <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/i-talked-to-andy-weir-about-the-astrobiology-behind-project-hail-mary\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/i-talked-to-andy-weir-about-the-astrobiology-behind-project-hail-mary\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/entertainment\/space-movies-shows\/i-talked-to-andy-weir-about-the-astrobiology-behind-project-hail-mary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">real-world biology<\/a>, space exploration and science, which grounded the blockbuster&#8217;s fantastic story in reality and an air of authenticity. Prazeres&#8217; astrophotography \u2014 and the drive to showcase real deep space images over CGI as the credits rolled \u2014 added to that sense of authenticity.<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-08b35d29-6375-49f3-b5c0-cc81b78de41c\">&#8220;So the first thing I thought was, you know, it&#8217;s a scam,&#8221; Prazeres told Space.com in an interview. &#8220;Second thing, I thought it was, I know it&#8217;s a local film, maybe not like a local festival and all, but let&#8217;s look up the guys who look at his details, because he specified the name of the company&#8221;. His first experience of deep sky astrophotography came in July 2023 when he captured a view of the Omega Nebula (Messier 17), which glows in the constellation Sagittarius 5,500 <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/light-year.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/light-year.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/light-year.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">light-years<\/a> from <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Earth<\/a>, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/hubble\/science\/explore-the-night-sky\/hubble-messier-catalog\/messier-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/hubble\/science\/explore-the-night-sky\/hubble-messier-catalog\/messier-17\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to NASA<\/a>. The years that followed saw Prazeres embark on a personal journey to research and learn the craft, which saw him attend multiple workshops with veteran astrophotographers.
