{"id":508618,"date":"2026-04-02T08:26:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T08:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/508618\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T08:26:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T08:26:15","slug":"fly-tipping-rates-increase-in-west-norfolk-while-fewer-tip-visits-are-being-made-councillor-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/508618\/","title":{"rendered":"Fly-tipping rates increase in West Norfolk while fewer tip visits are being made, councillor says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fly-tipping is on the rise and trips to recycling centres are declining since a booking system was introduced, it has been revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at West Norfolk Council\u2019s full meeting last Thursday, Cllr Sandra Squire told members she believes the booking system, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnnews.co.uk\/news\/new-booking-system-for-recycling-centres-is-officially-live-9391620\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">introduced by Norfolk County Council in late 2024<\/a>, has led to more people dumping waste.<\/p>\n<p>The cabinet member for environment and coastal was asked by Cllr Deborah Heneghan if she had raised concerns about the system with the county council.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1125 750\" alt=\"The site on Clockcase Road in Clenchwarton. Picture: Alice Hobbs<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should be making it easier for residents to recycle,\u201d Cllr Heneghan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you in discussions with the county council about this, because we as a borough actually bear the cost of the fly-tipping?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Heneghan described the website to book a timeslot to visit to tips &#8211; including those at Saddlebow in Lynn, Ashill, Docking, Heacham and Wereham &#8211; as \u201cclunky to use\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 3222 4511\" alt=\"West Norfolk councillor Sandra Squire. Picture: West Norfolk Council<\/p>\n<p>Fly-tipping has been on the rise in West Norfolk, especially in certain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnnews.co.uk\/news\/what-can-we-do-frustrations-grow-as-fly-tipping-continue-9458198\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hotspots such as Clenchwarton. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just a few weeks ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnnews.co.uk\/news\/a-staggering-65-tonnes-of-waste-cleared-from-village-lay-by-9457548\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Norfolk Council had to clear 65 tonnes <\/a>of waste dumped in the village.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Squire explained she feels that the introduction of the booking system has inadvertently caused more rubbish to be illegally discarded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do believe the booking system has led to an increase in fly-tipping rates,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut once the county council make a decision, they are unlikely to go back on it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have fewer visitors to the recycling centre, but saying this, it was not the case last weekend when I paid a visit to the tip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The booking system for tips across Norfolk,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lynnnews.co.uk\/news\/controversial-booking-system-for-tips-to-go-live-in-november-9385275\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> which went live in November 2024,<\/a> has faced continuous concerns from councillors worried about illegally dumped rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>However, the county council insisted the changes would help with service demand, reduce congestion and make sites safer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fly-tipping is on the rise and trips to recycling centres are declining since a booking system was introduced,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":508619,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[1397,229,90,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-508618","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-environment","8":"tag-environment","9":"tag-politics","10":"tag-science","11":"tag-uk","12":"tag-united-kingdom","13":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/508618","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=508618"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/508618\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/508619"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=508618"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=508618"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=508618"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
