{"id":508847,"date":"2026-04-02T11:45:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T11:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/508847\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T11:45:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T11:45:19","slug":"reform-uk-housing-chief-sacked-over-deeply-dehumanising-grenfell-comments-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/508847\/","title":{"rendered":"Reform UK housing chief sacked over &#8216;deeply dehumanising&#8217; Grenfell comments | UK News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reform&#8217;s new housing chief has been sacked over his comments about Grenfell Tower fire victims, which survivors and families called &#8220;deeply dehumanising&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Keir Starmer and opposition parties had called for Simon Dudley to be sacked as Reform&#8217;s new housing spokesman after he said the 72 deaths were a &#8220;tragedy and a failure&#8221; but &#8220;everyone dies in the end&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/politics-latest-keir-starmer-labour-iran-war-12593360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Politics latest: UK to host virtual summit to discuss &#8216;viable plan&#8217; for reopening Strait of Hormuz<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/reform-uk-10994\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Reform<\/a> leader Mr Farage revealed on Thursday morning Mr Dudley had been sacked, adding: &#8220;He&#8217;s no longer a spokesman for the party.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Farage added that his comments were &#8220;frankly rather shocking to many people&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>An inquiry into the 2017 blaze in west London found the deaths were avoidable and preventable, while safety concerns were regularly ignored by local and national politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Grenfell United, which represents some of the survivors and bereaved, said in a statement on Thursday: &#8220;Our loved ones did not simply &#8216;die.&#8217; They were failed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were trapped in their homes, in a building that should have been safe, in a fire that should never have happened. Reducing their deaths to an inevitability strips away the truth: this was preventable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To speak about Grenfell in this way is to erase responsibility. It suggests this was just fate, just &#8216;how it goes,&#8217; rather than the result of years of ignored warnings, poor decisions, and a failure to value the lives of residents, and is deeply offensive and ill-informed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone deserves the right to a safe home. Pic: PA<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with industry magazine Inside Housing, published on Wednesday, Mr Dudley said the building safety regulations introduced after the Grenfell fire were not working.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That was a tragedy, it was a failure,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sadly, you know, everyone dies in the end. It&#8217;s just how you go, right?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Extracting Grenfell from the statistics, actually people dying in house fires is rare.
