{"id":508855,"date":"2026-04-02T11:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T11:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/508855\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T11:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T11:52:08","slug":"manny-pacquiao-sends-clear-message-as-mayweather-throws-rematch-into-doubt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/508855\/","title":{"rendered":"Manny Pacquiao sends clear message as Mayweather throws rematch into doubt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Floyd Mayweather recently cast doubt on his rematch with Manny Pacquiao, contradicting the official announcement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/features\/floyd-mayweather-jr-manny-pacquiao-live-on-netflix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">In February, \u2018Money\u2019 Mayweather and Pacquiao announced that they would meet in the ring for a second time this year<\/a>, over a decade on from their first encounter.<\/p>\n<p>The fight \u2013 to be the first boxing card hosted at The Sphere in Las Vegas and streamed live by Netflix \u2013 was billed as a professional contest, meaning Mayweather would be putting his famous 50-0 record on the line for the first time since 2017.<\/p>\n<p>However, speaking at an event this past weekend, the 49-year-old defensive master said that it would be an exhibition fight with no such stakes. He also claimed that the venue was not finalised, and the futuristic Sphere is only an option.<\/p>\n<p>Pacquiao has now responded via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/glybuzVRPXY\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fight Hub TV<\/a>, confirming a contract has been signed for a professional fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that what he\u2019s feeling? But he signed a contract for a real fight \u2026 I don\u2019t want to fight an exhibition, it\u2019s a real fight. That\u2019s the contract that he signed. He has to remember that \u2026 There\u2019s no reason that [it won\u2019t happen.]\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With streaming giant Netflix behind it, it is highly unlikely the fight would have been announced without contracts being finalised, meaning Mayweather\u2019s comments could be either gamesmanship or an attempt to revisit the original terms.<\/p>\n<p>Both men are booked for exhibitions this year before the money-spinning rematch \u2013 Floyd is to face Mike Zambidis in June and Mike Tyson on a date yet to be confirmed, and <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/manny-pacquiaos-fight-in-jeopardy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018PacMan\u2019 had previously announced a bout with Ruslan Provodnikov, though the Russian\u2019s team recently said they are unsure where things currently stand.<\/a> Whether or not any of these go ahead remains to be seen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Floyd Mayweather recently cast doubt on his rematch with Manny Pacquiao, contradicting the official announcement.
