Courtney Love<\/a> has asked Dave Grohl<\/a> to \u201cjust say we\u2019re cool\u201d \u2013 and for his fan base of \u201cstraight white males\u201d to stop \u201cpicking\u201d on her.<\/p>\n

The Hole frontwoman recently appeared on\u00a0The Magnificent Others\u00a0podcast with\u00a0Smashing Pumpkins<\/a> frontman Billy Corgan<\/a>, where she spoke of her friendship with Grohl. Historically, Love and Grohl have had a rocky relationship, dating all the way back to when Love dated Grohl\u2019s former Nirvana<\/a> bandmate Kurt Cobain<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, despite public perception, Love said that the pair are actually on amicable terms. \u201cCome out with it and just say we\u2019re cool,\u201d Love said while referencing the\u00a0Foo Fighters<\/a> frontman. \u201cBe man enough to man up, because you\u2019re the Uberman. [You have] all the straight males and we\u2019re cool, but you won\u2019t say it because you\u2019re afraid you\u2019ll lose your audience. You\u2019re afraid it\u2019ll affect your relationship with literal Paul McCartney<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Love went on to accuse Grohl of not having the same \u201ctalent\u201d as McCartney, adding:\u00a0\u201cThey both have the wife \u2014 haunting, dark shadow. They both have the cool guy dying \u2014 haunting, tragically haunted. So they\u2019re buddies. Is that why?\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to directly address Grohl, saying: \u201cDave, it would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base will stop picking on me\u201d. Love also clarified that it was \u201cthe millennials in particular\u201d who were criticising Love.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour heart drops whenever somebody that you\u2019re cool with, or maybe just remotely cool with disses you in the press,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Corgan backed up Love\u2019s claims, saying:\u00a0\u201cI can confirm that I\u2019ve spent time with you and Dave together, and Dave doesn\u2019t have any issue with you. There\u2019s the stuff that goes on behind the castle walls, and there\u2019s stuff goes out front.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Grohl and Love\u2019s feud has spanned multiple years, with Grohl opening up about their relationship<\/a> on the 2007 Foo Fighters song \u2018Let It Die\u2019. At the time, Grohl enigmatically explained that the song was\u00a0\u201cwritten about feeling helpless to someone else\u2019s demise\u201d.<\/p>\n

He went on to note that the song was about Kurt Cobain\u2019s death, adding: \u201cThere are a lot of people that I\u2019ve been angry with in my life, but the one that\u2019s most noted is Courtney. So it\u2019s pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Love claimed that Cobain \u201cloathed\u201d the Nirvana drummer<\/a>, alleging that Grohl had \u201chit on me so many times. He\u2019s just a very very conflicted guy about me, which is why he continually writes songs about me to hear he \u2018hates\u2019 me more than \u2018anyone else\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n

Grohl would later deny Love\u2019s accusations that he tried seduce her and Cobain\u2019s daughter, Frances,<\/a> calling her claims \u201cupsetting, offensive and absolutely untrue\u201d. Frances herself would confirm that she had \u201cnever been approached\u201d by Grohl<\/a> in a romantic or sexual manner, adding that \u201cTwitter should ban my mother\u201d. Love would go on to publicly apologise to Frances<\/a> on social media.<\/p>\n

Though Love claimed the pair were \u201ccool\u201d in 2015<\/a>, she would reignite their feud by hitting out at Grohl over an apparent Nirvana royalties agreement, alongside accusing\u00a0Nine Inch Nails<\/a>\u2019\u00a0Trent Reznor<\/a> of \u201csystemic\u201d child abuse. Neither Grohl nor Reznor would publicly address Love\u2019s claims, and she eventually deleted her post and apologised for making the comments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2023, she would share texts she sent to Grohl\u00a0<\/a>as part of a call for more women to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the same interview with Corgan, the pair shared their mutual frustrations with \u201cgatekeeper\u201d Kim Gordon.<\/a><\/p>\n

Love claimed Gordon was \u201creally horrible in the \u201990s\u201d, adding: \u201cI remember in Holland I was hanging out with you and they were so mean.\u201d Corgan replied with his own anecdote, telling Love: \u201cI was a fan and I came in to pay my respects and I was treated so rudely by them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gordon has spoken of her dislike for both Corgan and Love in the past, writing in her 2015 memoir Girl In A Band:\u00a0\u201cI have a low tolerance for manipulative, egomaniacal behavior, and usually have to remind myself that the person might be mentally ill.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCourtney asked us for advice about her \u2018secret affair\u2019 with Billy Corgan,\u201d Gordon wrote later in the book. \u201cI thought, \u2018Ewwww,\u2019 at even the mention of Billy Corgan, whom nobody liked because he was such a crybaby, and Smashing Pumpkins took themselves way too seriously and were in no way punk rock.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate interview with Hole bandmade Melissa Auf der Maur<\/a>, Corgan also discussed Love\u2019s contentious history with the media<\/a> in the wake of Cobain\u2019s suicide in April 1994 \u2013 with Love criticised for\u00a0\u201cbreaking up\u201d Nirvana and blamed as the source for his death.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere seemed to be a need to pin the blame on somebody,\u201d Corgan said, while Auf der Maur added: \u201cAbsolutely, and we lived in a patriarchal hellscape\u2026 What they did to Courtney, they burned her at the stake.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Courtney Love has teased a new tour with Auf der Maur.<\/a> Though the 2020 NME Icon Award winner<\/a> clarified it wasn\u2019t going to be an official Hole reunion<\/a>, Love did confirm they\u2019d be \u201cplaying some shows, new songs\u201d together.
