Chelsea have been told that selling Cole Palmer to Man Utd or another club could be \u201cthe answer\u201d to solving their financial losses.<\/p>\n
The Blues have spent well over \u00a31billion since a Todd Boehly-led consortium took over the club in May 2022 but there has been little progress on the pitch.<\/p>\n
Chelsea<\/a> have been criticised for spending much of their money on unproven, but very talented, younger starlets instead of players ready to help them rise up the table.<\/p>\n The Blues are currently sixth in the Premier League<\/a> under Liam Rosenior, who is their second manager of the season, and in danger of not qualifying for the Champions League.<\/p>\n That would hit revenue hard ahead of the summer as Chelsea announced the biggest pre-tax loss in Premier League history on Wednesday with a \u00a3262m deficit for 2024\/25.<\/p>\n And now former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson insists that Chelsea could be best off selling Palmer \u2013 who joined from the Citizens for \u00a342.5m in 2023 \u2013 if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.<\/p>\n READ: Rosenior sacked for Xabi Alonso as broken Chelsea fixed for profit in four easy moves<\/a><\/p>\n Borson told Football Insider<\/a>: \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s any question there\u2019s some challenges there.<\/p>\n \u201cMaybe what they need to do is take some very bold decisions on who they sell, and that might include a player like Palmer, who they probably would prefer not to sell.<\/p>\n \u201cCan they get Manchester United<\/a>, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich to pay in excess of \u00a3100m? Maybe that\u2019s the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n Borson added:\u00a0\u201cYou take the \u00a370m book profit, or maybe a bit more, and you reinvest it in the squad.<\/p>\n READ: England being rubbish in the run up to the World Cup could be a good omen\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t see them doing it, but at some point, they may have to consider radical things of that nature if they don\u2019t have the Champions League revenue and they don\u2019t have the front-of-shirt sponsor revenue.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are challenges and, of course, the fanbase is up in arms. It doesn\u2019t take many defeats to get fans going a bit crazy shall we say.\u201d<\/p>\n Man Utd have been heavily linked with a move for Palmer in recent weeks amid claims that the England international has come \u2018disillusioned\u2019<\/a> at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n
