A federal judge has thrown out the majority of Blake Lively<\/a>\u2019s claims against Justin Baldoni.<\/p>\n

In a court ruling on Thursday, Judge Lewis Liman dismissed 10 of the 13 claims in Lively\u2019s lawsuit against her co-star and director of the domestic violence film It Ends With Us<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the 10 claims that Liman threw out were Lively\u2019s claims of sexual harassment, conspiracy and defamation. Just three of the actor\u2019s claims will now be heard at trial: breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting in retaliation.<\/p>\n

This decision leaves Lively\u2019s case with a more narrow purview, with its focus limited to the actor\u2019s claims that Baldoni was behind a retaliatory campaign which shared and boosted negative stories about her online.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis case has always been and will remain focused on the devasting retaliation and the extraordinary steps the defendants took to destroy Blake Lively\u2019s reputation because she stood up for safety on the set and that is the case that is going to trial,\u201d Sigrid McCawley, an attorney for Lively, said in a statement. \u201cFor Blake Lively<\/a>, the greatest measure of justice is that the people and the playbook behind these coordinated digital attacks have been exposed and are already being held accountable by other women they\u2019ve targeted.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCawley added that the claims of sexual harassment were dismissed \u201cnot because the defendants did nothing wrong but because the court determined Blake Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lively\u2019s lawyers had claimed that Baldoni was \u201cconsistently inappropriate\u201d with their client, and \u201ckissed, nuzzled and touched\u201d her without her consent. Lively accused Baldoni of sexually harassing her by making unwanted comments about her appearance and weight while filming the Colleen Hoover adaptation.<\/p>\n

Last June, Liman dismissed<\/a> Lively\u2019s two claims of emotional distress against Baldoni. The same month, he threw out<\/a> Baldoni\u2019s $400m defamation claim against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.<\/p>\n

Released in 2024, It Ends With Us was a global hit and grossed more than $350m, but was soon overshadowed by rumors of conflict between Lively and Baldoni and messy, drawn-out litigation.<\/p>\n

The case has lifted the lid on Lively\u2019s private messages to other A-listers such as Taylor Swift<\/a> and Ben Affleck<\/a>. In unsealed text messages to Swift, Lively called Baldoni the \u201cdoofus director of my movie\u201d and asked the singer for thoughts on a rewrite of the It Ends With Us screenplay. Swift allegedly replied: \u201cI\u2019ll do anything for you!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis doesn\u2019t help either of them,\u201d former entertainment lawyer and Puck reporter Matthew Belloni told<\/a> the Guardian last year of the Lively and Baldoni case. \u201cThe longer this goes on and the more mud that\u2019s slung at each other, it really hurts both of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
