There are plans in the works to bring air hazard alerts to the 112 Suomi emergency services mobile app.<\/p>\n

According to the Emergency Response Centre Agency’s Director General, Taito Vainio, a procurement decision regarding the effort was made on Thursday. Commercial broadcaster MTV’s news unit<\/a> first reported the matter.<\/p>\n

The agency started to plan adding the air hazard alert before the recent spate of drones drifting into Finnish territory<\/a>. Ukraine has been using the armed UAVs to attack Russian oil ports around the Gulf of Finland.<\/p>\n

Adding the new feature to the app was originally scheduled to be completed at the end of this year, but Vainio said the agency is looking into whether that timeline could be accelerated.<\/p>\n

He noted that the war in Ukraine has accelerated these types of preparedness projects.<\/p>\n

In practice, the air hazard alerts would be triggered when the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) detect a pending dangerous situation. It would allow authorities to quickly communicate information about the situation to people in affected areas, offering them a chance to take appropriate action.<\/p>\n
