{"id":51055,"date":"2025-08-07T19:48:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T19:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/51055\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T19:48:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T19:48:08","slug":"goran-ivanisevic-names-the-tennis-legend-who-destroyed-his-life-i-cant-forgive-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/51055\/","title":{"rendered":"Goran Ivanisevic names the tennis legend who &#8216;destroyed&#8217; his life, &#8216;I can&#8217;t forgive him&#8217;\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Goran Ivanisevic has found plenty of success in his coaching career so far, which began in 2013 when he took Marin Cilic under his wing. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/Goran-Ivanisevic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ivanisevic<\/a> helped his Croatian compatriot Cilic secure his first and only Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2014, and afterwards enjoyed brief player-coach relationships with Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, he was appointed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>, whom he guided to nine major titles and seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP<\/a> Masters 1000 crowns. <\/p>\n<p>Despite unsuccessful stints in recent times, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/stefanos-tsitsipas-announces-new-coach-after-split-with-goran-ivanisevic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ivanisevic\u2019s short-lived spell with Stefanos Tsitsipas<\/a>, the 53-year-old has done more than enough to cement himself as a top coach.<\/p>\n<p>His new career came just under a decade after calling it a day on his playing career in 2004, which he has been reflecting on after parting ways with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/stefanos-tsitsipas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tsitsipas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2221920991-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Goran Ivanisevic looks on during a practice session at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-114633\" \/>Photo by Dan Istitene\/Getty ImagesThe player that \u2018destroyed\u2019 Goran Ivanisevic\u2019s life in his playing days<\/p>\n<p>Ivanisevic enjoyed many triumphs during his days on the ATP Tour and made multiple deep runs at Grand Slam events. <\/p>\n<p>He reached his first major final at Wimbledon in 1992, but lost to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andre-agassi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andre Agassi<\/a> over five sets, in what marked the American\u2019s first title at the All England Club. <\/p>\n<p>In 1994, Ivanisevic advanced to the final again in SW19, this time falling to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/pete-sampras\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Sampras<\/a>, losing to the American in straight sets on Centre Court.<\/p>\n<p>Four years later, he returned to the championship match at Wimbledon for the third time, where he suffered defeat to Sampras once more. <\/p>\n<p>Despite finally winning the tournament in 2001, Ivanisevic told <a href=\"https:\/\/sportal.blic.rs\/prica\/goran-ivanisevic-o-pitu-samprasu-unistio-mi-je-karijeru-2025080609551289005#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sportal<\/a> that losing to the 14-time Grand Slam champion at the last hurdle twice was incredibly tough to take. <\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThat man destroyed a lot of my life, dreams, sleep, nerves.
