One of the most exciting sporting events in the region \u2013 the East Cleveland Classic cycle race \u2013 returns on Sunday, April 12. The races for men and women will once again be a part of this year\u2019s British Cycling Open National Road Series which has international importance.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s free to go along and enjoy the event which will once again put the beauty of East Cleveland in the spotlight with cycle fans across the country following the races. Starting and finishing in Saltburn<\/a> (near the bandstand), the circuit will also include Skelton<\/a>, Guisborough<\/a>, Charltons, Boosbeck<\/a>, Lingdale<\/a> and Brotton<\/a>.<\/p>\n The women will race four laps totalling 68 miles and the men six laps totalling 100 miles. It starts at 9am for the women and 1.15pm for the men.<\/p>\n Cllr Carrie Richardson, Deputy Leader of Redcar<\/a> & Cleveland Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Climate and Culture, said: \u201cThis is a wonderful sporting event, a chance to see truly elite sportsmen and women. It\u2019s also a chance to have fun and show off the beauty of East Cleveland on television to cycling fans across the country and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n A rolling road closure will be enforced on the race route. This means roads on route will be closed to traffic by Police Escort Vehicles. Closures are in place for a short period (usually around 15 minutes) to allow the race to pass safely.
