Alan Davies<\/a> has given fans a health update following his bladder cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n

The stand-up comedian, writer and actor \u2013 best known for his role in the BBC<\/a> mystery series Jonathan Creek and panel show QI<\/a> \u2013 was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2024.<\/p>\n

Davies, 60, also revealed the symptom that made him realise that something was wrong.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Jonathan Ross during an episode of the chat show due to air on Saturday (4 April), Davies said: \u201cIn 2024, I had bladder cancer. Luckily, [there was] a little bit of blood in the toilet bowl and I saw it\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to describe the flexible cystoscopy procedure that he underwent in order to remove the tumour. \u201cIt\u2019s not very nice and it\u2019s not as bad as you think,\u201d he said. \u201cThey got it out, so phew.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davies has since received the all clear from his doctors and is back touring again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know if anyone would come,\u201d he told Ross. \u201cIt\u2019s a bit like having a party. But people did come, and a lot of them had grey hair and hadn\u2019t been out for ages.\u201d<\/p>\n

His first tour in 10 years, Think Ahead saw Davies confront subjects he has never before discussed publicly. \u201cI have to now,\u201d he said. \u201cI spend more time in the pharmacy than in the gym.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davies went on to say that his material has become \u201cricher\u201d and \u201cbetter\u201d because he is addressing serious topics such as grief and abuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first stand\u2011up show where I\u2019ve been able to talk about these difficult subjects,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the importance of honesty, Davies continued: \u201cLet\u2019s not have shame, let\u2019s all talk, talk, talk. You have to make it funny \u2013 very funny before it and really funny after it. If the show was a cake, this has got all the ingredients in. It\u2019s a richer and better experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a four-star review of the tour, The Guardian called it a \u201cstriking new show, a cross-section of the 59-year-old\u2019s life now that reveals parts his previous shows couldn\u2019t reach\u201d.<\/p>\n

Davies first revealed the story of his childhood sexual abuse in his 2020 memoir Just Ignore Him.
