No. 2 seed France Tiafoe, winning his Round of 16 match in front of Kevin Durant, will look to follow up that victory against the upset-minded Alexei Popyrin. As always, we at LWOT have the preview and prediction for every match on the ATP Houston quarterfinal slate. But who will advance?

ATP Houston Quarterfinal Predictions
Ben Shelton vs Thiago Agustin Tirante

Head-to-Head: first meeting

No. 1 seed Ben Shelton used two tiebreaks to get past Zhizhen Zhang in the Round of 16. Shelton, who had an underwhelming performance during the Sunshine Double, has a bit of extra motivation to play well at ATP Houston before a summer in Europe. He has a sneakily tough quarterfinal matchup against clay-court specialist Thiago Agustin Tirante. The 24-year-old Argentine reached a career-high world No. 74 last month and is playing some of the best tennis of his career. An unfocused Shelton would be on upset alert, but I suspect his team will have him ready for this one.

Prediction: Shelton in 3

Tommy Paul vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry

Head-to-Head: Paul 1-0 Etcheverry

Expect Tommy Paul to have a strong clay court season. When healthy, he is one of the best movers on tour. For my money, Paul is the best American clay-courter in the world. Tomas Martin Etcheverry is playing some phenomenal tennis, posting a 12-3 record since the beginning of February. However, one of those losses was a 6-1 6-3 lambasting from Paul in Miami. Although the conditions will be much different, it’s hard to get that result out of your head in ten days.

Prediction: Paul in 3

Learner Tien vs Roman Andres Burruchaga

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Learner Tien is into his maiden ATP Tour clay-court quarterfinal and has no plans of stopping. The 20-year-old came to ATP Houston with a career 1-6 record in ATP events on the clay. Although he joked about doubling his clay wins on Thursday, his competitive side knows how important the next six weeks are. Life won’t get easier in the ATP Houston quarters as he squares off against clay court ringer Roman Andres Burruchaga. The 24-year-old Argentine currently holds his career high ranking of No. 77. He is into his second ATP quarterfinal and already has more ATP wins this year than the rest of his career combined.

For me, this match comes down to whether or not Tien will be patient from the ground. If he shows rally tolerance and plays to big targets, he should outlast Burruchaga. But if he goes for big forehands early and often, do not be surprised to see the lower-ranked Argentine pull off the upset.

Prediction: Burruchaga in 3

Frances Tiafoe vs Alexei Popyrin

Head-to-Head: Tiafoe 1-1 Popyrin

After what would be considered “down” years in 2024 and 2025, Frances Tiafoe is sneakily having a terrific start to 2026. The World No. 18 is 16-7 this season, with only one of those losses coming against a lower-ranked player. Alexei Popyrin, the current World No. 45, fits that bill. The Aussie played blistering tennis to take down Alex Michelsen in three sets. He was striking the ball cleanly, moving well, and dictating most points. However, Tiafoe has much more variety to his game than his younger compatriot. Given his current form and the juice he gets from the ATP Houston crowd, it would be tough to pick against Big Foe.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 3

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey – USA TODAY Sports

We have reached the quarterfinals of the only ATP clay court event in the United States, and every…

[38
23255,101030,178499,176720,9475,92266,9476,136864,15929,103331,155312,155313,101,118,30554,30555,158273,158274,88121,88122,31554,140663,56,54,55
0":"post-510888","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-alexei-popyrin","9":"tag-alexei-popyrin-predictions","10":"tag-atp-houston","11":"tag-atp-houston-predictions","12":"tag-ben-shelton","13":"tag-ben-shelton-predictions","14":"tag-frances-tiafoe","15":"tag-frances-tiafoe-predictions","16":"tag-learner-tien","17":"tag-learner-tien-predictions","18":"tag-roman-andres-burruchaga","19":"tag-roman-andres-burruchaga-predictions","20":"tag-sports","21":"tag-tennis","22":"tag-tennis-picks","23":"tag-tennis-predictions","24":"tag-thiago-agustin-tirante","25":"tag-thiago-agustin-tirante-predictions","26":"tag-tomas-martin-etcheverry","27":"tag-tomas-martin-etcheverry-predictions","28":"tag-tommy-paul","29":"tag-tommy-paul-predictions","30":"tag-uk","31":"tag-united-kingdom","32":"tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
