\n\tBrian Cox<\/a> is never one to mince his words when it comes to fellow actors, and he\u2019s gone ahead and targeted his \u201c25th Hour\u201d co-star Edward Norton (\u201ca pain in the arse\u201d), Ian McKellen (\u201cnot to my taste\u201d) and Kevin Spacey (\u201ca stupid, stupid man\u201d) in a new interview with The Times of London<\/a>. Cox, who is promoting his directorial effort \u201cGlenrothan,\u201d even shaded Quentin Tarantino<\/a> as \u201cmeretricious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m more egalitarian than a lot of directors, the kind who call themselves visionaries,\u201d Cox said about his own directing style. \u201cI like to honor the actor\u2019s performance. With a Quentin Tarantino film, what you see is all Quentin Tarantino. That\u2019s not me. I don\u2019t want to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCox already made headlines <\/a>for attacking actors when his memoir, \u201cPutting the Rabbit in the Hat,\u201d came out in 2022 and revealed he turned down the role of the governor in the \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d franchise and was relieved to do so because Johnny Depp is \u201cso overblown, so overrated.\u201d Cox later said he regretted<\/a> the shade and \u201cwas just being harsh\u201d on Depp, adding: \u201cYou go for the easy joke. And I went for the easy joke. That was what happened, and I sort of regretted it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPerhaps the most viral of Cox\u2019s critiques has been those made about his \u201cSuccession\u201d co-star Jeremy Strong<\/a>. Cox has\u00a0spoken out against<\/a>\u00a0Method acting in various interviews over the years, frequently citing Strong\u00a0as an example of\u00a0why the acting style<\/a>\u00a0is \u201cfucking annoying.\u201d In an interview with\u00a0Variety<\/a>, Cox even floated a connection between Strong\u2019s Method acting and Daniel Day-Lewis since \u201cJeremy was Day-Lewis\u2019 assistant. So he\u2019s learned all that stuff from Dan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDay-Lewis opposed Cox\u2019s thoughts during an interview last year with\u00a0U.K.\u2019s Big Issue<\/a>, saying: \u201cI worked with Brian Cox once and got somehow drawn into this handbags-at-dawn conflict [over Method acting] inadvertently. Brian is a very fine actor who\u2019s done extraordinary work. As a result,\u00a0he\u2019s been given a soapbox\u2026 which he shows no sign of climbing down from. Any time he wants to talk about it, I\u2019m easy to find.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked by The Times of London<\/a> if he reached out to Day-Lewis, Cox said: \u201cNo, I haven\u2019t reached out because it\u2019s got nothing to do with Dan Day-Lewis.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDan Day-Lewis, he\u2019s discreet. He never upsets it [the filming process],\u201d Cox continued. \u201cHe\u2019s never, sort of\u2026 I don\u2019t want to go on about Jeremy, because I\u2019ve got into a lot of problems and he\u2019s begged me to stop talking about him. He\u2019s a good actor, Jeremy. He\u2019s a wonderful actor. It\u2019s just all the bollocks that goes with it. You watch children \u2014 they don\u2019t say, \u2018What\u2019s my motivation?\u2019 They just do it!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCox even put the U.S. on blast during his interview by saying: \u201cIn America they don\u2019t like women. They won\u2019t let a woman be president, not in the foreseeable future. Look what happened to Hillary Clinton. The patriarchy is so invasive and so insidious, it\u2019s hard to throw it off. I think the patriarchy is a fucking mess, and it\u2019s the patriarchy that got us into the position that we\u2019re in at the moment, and we don\u2019t learn the lessons. I say, give it over to the women.\u201d<\/p>\n
