Succession star Brian Cox has joined the cast of Dexter spin-off series Resurrection for its second season. The sequel series follows Michael C Hall’s titular serial killer after the events of New Blood, and premiered its first season last year.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the second run, it has been confirmed that Cox will play the role of serial killer The New York Ripper\/Dom Frant, whose reign of terror was years ago.<\/p>\n

While he’s “no longer active as a killer”, the villain has “found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree”.<\/p>\n

There was a nod to the character in the first season when a file was unearthed, though fans were yet to see the baddie on screen.<\/p>\n

Alongside a returning Hall, Resurrection boasts an impressive cast including Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Eric Stonestreet and Neil Patrick Harris.<\/p>\n

The series acts as the third spin-off to Dexter, which originally ran between 2006 and 2013, after New Blood and Original Sin. The latter prequel show was cancelled last year<\/a> after one season, despite originally landing a season two renewal.<\/p>\n

Resurrection has largely attracted acclaim from critics, sitting at a near-perfect 95% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> based on 64 reviews.<\/p>\n

RogerEbert.com<\/a> said in their review that “the good news for hardcore Dexter fans is that this latest iteration is rooted firmly in the haunting and bleak foundation of the original series”.<\/p>\n

“The new setting, the old humor, the new killers (who are just goofy enough to evoke the excellent killers of old) \u2013 are enough of a hook to reward anyone still eager to engage with their favorite aughts era mass murderer,” added IndieWire<\/a>.<\/p>\n
