Paul Simon<\/a> has revealed his list of all-time American songwriters, touching on Chuck Berry to Stevie Wonder.<\/p>\n When appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host revealed proudly that Simon sat on his \u201cMount Rushmore of American lyricists\u201d alongside Bob Dylan, Jackson Brown, Stephen Sondheim, and John Prine.<\/p>\n Colbert then flipped the script on Simon, inviting him to outline his picks for the greatest American songwriters of all time.<\/p>\n Taking a moment to consider the huge question, the legendary musician began, \u201cIn the 1950s, Chuck Berry wrote things that were so good that they could have been part of the Harlem Renaissance. He taught my whole generation,\u201d before explaining that Dylan and the Beatles were \u201call influenced by Chuck Berry.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that the \u2018Johnny B. Goode\u2019 star \u201cmade stories in words that flowed effortlessly, and his stories were great, great stories.\u201d <\/p>\n Turning his attention to Dylan, he added, \u201cBob, of course, is a really interesting lyricist.\u201d<\/p>\n To loud whoops and yells in the crowd, Simon added of Dylan\u2019s contemporary, \u201cJoni Mitchell is an interesting lyricist.\u201d<\/p>\n While Colbert attempted to wrap up the conversation, the \u2018Bridge over Troubled Water\u2019 songwriter was keen to share more praise, explaining, \u201cI don\u2019t want to make it sound as if that\u2019s the only one because there were so many.\u201d<\/p>\n He also added Stevie Wonder to the list as he was also a \u201creally good storyteller.\u201d<\/p>\n Simon recently cropped up on another<\/a> late-night talk show after being spotted on Saturday Night Live introducing one of Harry Styles\u2019 musical numbers.<\/p>\n Simon will soon embark on his first European tour since 2018<\/a>. Simon\u2019s A Quiet Celebration Tour will kick off on April 9th in Prague and will eventually conclude on May 20th at Dublin\u2019s 3Arena.<\/p>\n In 2024, it looked like Simon wouldn\u2019t ever tour again; he admitted at the time that he wasn\u2019t sure if he would perform live again<\/a> due to his ongoing hearing issues, stating, \u201cI\u2019m not sure how I can integrate my voice with the guitars.\u201d However, Simon is back and better than ever.<\/p>\n
