Hannah Cooper-Dommett spills on the hilarious realities of parenting – and how the couple are preparing for the imminent arrival of baby number two<\/p>\n

Hannah Cooper-Dommett<\/a> jokes a little nervously that her bump is so big now, people basically clock her in the street and think, \u2018That woman needs to go home!\u2019 Preparing for the imminent arrival of her second child with husband, TV host Joel Dommett<\/a>, she tells in an exclusive interview that she is due \u2018dangerously soon\u2019.<\/p>\n

But staying at home is not an option, explains the 37-year-old blonde beauty, as she knows she\u2019ll have a newborn \u201cstuck to her boobs\u2019 soon – and wants to get out while she can.<\/p>\n

After welcoming their first child Wilde, two years ago<\/a>, the couple seem to be taking the prospect of baby number two<\/a> in their stride – but not enough to venture outside the capital\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I\u2019m not leaving London\u201d, model and presenter Hannah says firmly. \u201cJoel and I were supposed to go on a babymoon last week and ended up\u2026 freaking out and staying home!\u201d<\/p>\n

This pregnancy<\/a>, she explains, is completely different to her first as she\u2019s running around so much after their active two-year-old son that it feels like she\u2019s competing in an \u2018Olympic sport\u2019 – and naps feel like \u201cutter luxuries\u201d.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s also contemplating splitting her attention between Wilde and the baby. \u201cThere\u2019s definitely that mum guilt, how do you navigate two?! It\u2019s a whirlwind of emotions that you almost don\u2019t have time to think about – that\u2019s maybe a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple know what they\u2019re having, but decided to keep it a secret though it\u2019s increasingly difficult, laughs Hannah, as Wilde seems hellbent on telling everyone he meets, \u201cincluding the Ocado <\/a>delivery man\u201d.<\/p>\n

The toddler also seems more concerned about the present he\u2019ll get when he finally meets his little brother or sister. \u201cHe keeps saying, \u2018Get Wilde racing car.\u2019 I think he\u2019s happy?!\u201d<\/p>\n

Is he in the thick of the \u2018terrible twos\u2019, then? Hannah concedes that, though he\u2019s ramped up the mischievous behaviour in the last couple of weeks (\u201che can feel change in the air\u201d), he\u2019s a great little boy, calm and the opposite, if anything, of his name.<\/p>\n

Life, she adds, changed completely for her and Joel when they became parents. \u201cWhen you go on a first date with someone you think, \u201cOh, are they hot, would I maybe marry them?\u201d I don\u2019t think you really think about how they\u2019re going to be as parents. That\u2019s a massive one.”<\/p>\n

Thankfully, she\u2019s hit the jackpot when it comes to Masked Singe<\/a>r host Joel, 40, quipping that her biggest tip for a life partner is to date a \u2018children\u2019s entertainer\u2019. \u201cI think I\u2019ve lucked out. I sometimes suspect he has more fun playing than Wilde does.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a serious note, she feels fortunate that she and Joel are such \u2018open communicators\u2019. \u201cAs parents you always have to voice how you\u2019re feeling; otherwise resentment builds. We voice everything to each other. If we don\u2019t, we save it up for the podcast, for the nation to listen to!\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s weekly pod, Never Have I Ever<\/a>, which sees them act on unusual, listener-suggested experiences they\u2019ve never done before, is going strong.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to record it when Wild is down for a nap, and there\u2019s always madness. It\u2019s very relatable, like Wilde fell out of his cot for the first time the other day, then he\u2019s singing Jingle Bells in March. It\u2019s not the most professional, but it\u2019s real.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their son\u2019s latest thing, she adds, is running about supermarket aisles shouting \u2018Take it off! Take it off!\u201d at unsuspecting shoppers. \u201cJoel really doesn\u2019t get embarrassed easily, but it\u2019s the one time that he honestly goes physically red when Wilde does that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah and Joel tied the knot in an intimate beachside wedding in Mykonos<\/a> in 2019. Would the pair ever renew their vows, with two little ones on special duties? \u201cActually, this December we\u2019ve been together ten years, married seven. It\u2019s the seven-year itch and we\u2019re having a second child, so let\u2019s see how it goes!\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ten years together is worth celebrating. Will they have a party? Hannah laughs. \u201cWell, with the way my date nights are going with childcare and everything, maybe we\u2019ll go for a nice dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike, today Joel and I are going for dinner at 5 p.m. That\u2019s a prime spot because you get good service you\u2019re home by nine and you know you\u2019re going to be up early with your kids. If you\u2019d told 21-year-old me I\u2019d be going for a 5 p.m. dinner reservation, I\u2019d have freaked out. We\u2019re not rock and roll.\u201d<\/p>\n

It can\u2019t be easy to juggle their busy schedules, especially if Joel is away filming, as he was late last year for I\u2019m A Celebrity<\/a>. Pre-kids, admits Hannah, it was \u2018exciting\u2019. Nowadays, it\u2019s about sitting in bed on a Sunday night, consulting their shared Google<\/a> calendar for the week ahead.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, the Dutch-born model, who was discovered in London as a teenager, is backing a new WhatsApp<\/a> channel by MAM Baby \u2013 The MAM Village – in partnership with perinatal mental health charity PANDAs, offering pre and post-natal support.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful campaign\u201d, she enthuses. \u201cIt really resonated with me. It\u2019s so difficult to find your \u2018village\u2019. The reality of what our villages look like these days are often our mates or a random mum that we\u2019ve met in a caf\u00e9. We turn to social communities more than ever, so this is another opportunity for new mums to connect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Second time round, Hannah doesn\u2019t feel as scared about asking for parenting help. \u201c I think we all try and pretend we\u2019ve got it nailed, so asking means you\u2019re not coping, and it\u2019s actually the complete opposite. \u201cI just want to encourage mums to connect and know where to go for help. If that\u2019s something they can access at 3 a.m. when breastfeeding, amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah\u2019s experience of that village was unexpectedly hard with Wilde, as her mother discovered in December 2020 that she had a brain tumour, and went on to suffer a stroke<\/a> – prompting Hannah and Joel to both become ambassadors for Brain Tumour Support.<\/p>\n

She says quietly, \u201cI guess I had that rom-com idea of what my childcare setup would look like. I definitely delayed talking about children because we were like, how are we actually going to do this and what does it look like?\u201d<\/p>\n

She adds, \u201cAnything can change at any time, for any of us.I think, it\u2019s made me stronger and made me turn to new places and communities that I definitely wouldn\u2019t have before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah\u2019s mother also suffers from aphasia <\/a>now, which makes communication difficult. \u201cI\u2019m going through a stage where Wilde is talking to an equivalent level to my mum, and that\u2019s\u2026 like reliving different stages of grief. But I\u2019m so grateful she\u2019s here.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer being my village is something that we\u2019ve had to reconfigure, and she\u2019s sad about that too, I know that. I\u2019d have loved it if mum was my number one go-to, but it\u2019s just different \u2014 and that\u2019s okay. That\u2019s why things like the MAM Village are so important for new mums.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her mum\u2019s illness has also put things into sharp focus for Hannah, who says she has inspired her deeply. \u201cI had a photo of mum in the room when I was in labour with Wilde, thinking, this woman has been through so much – if she can do it, I can give birth. Her strength has given me the courage to be the mother that I am now.\u201d<\/p>\n
