Mickelson<\/a> missed the first \u200cfour events of LIV’s 2026 season due \u200cto the same family health matter \u200cand had just returned to action on the Saudi-backed circuit two weeks ago in \u200cSouth Africa where he finished \u2060in a \u200cshare of 48th.<\/p>\n“Unfortunately, I will not play in \u200bthe Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an \u200bextended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal \u2060health matter,” the \u200bsix-time major champion said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n
“I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club and \u200cit is definitely the most special week of the year. I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching.”<\/p>\n
This marks the first time Mickelson will not compete in the year’s first major since 2022, when he sat out the tournament while taking a \u200cself-imposed break after excerpts from an \u200bunauthorised biography revealed he had called \u200cthe Saudis “scary” but was willing to look past their human rights record.<\/p>\n
Mickelson missed the cut at last year’s Masters.<\/p>\n
