A new project\u00a0organised\u00a0by fans will aim to fully document the career of the late and highly influential producer and musician\u00a0SOPHIE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The pioneering Scottish artist, who\u00a0consistently pushed the boundaries of electronic experimentation,\u00a0passed away in January\u00a02021 in a tragic accident in Athens<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She has been cited as a key influence by the likes of\u00a0Charli XCX<\/a>,\u00a0Vince Staples<\/a>,\u00a0FKA twigs<\/a>, Jack Antonoff<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Sam Smith<\/a>,\u00a0but she only released two studio albums during her life \u2013 2015\u2019s \u2018Product\u2019 and 2018\u2019s \u2018Oil\u00a0Of\u00a0Every Pearl\u2019s Un-Insides<\/a>\u2018.<\/p>\n

Now, an online preservation project has been set up by fans of SOPHIE in an effort to fully document all of the artist\u2019s work, including an archive of live sets, official releases, photoshoots and interviews.<\/p>\n

The site \u2013 dubbed\u00a0WHOLENEW.WORLD<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 is currently a work-in-progress, but\u00a0already includes an extensive selection of live sets from as far back as 2010\u00a0and all the way up to 2020.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The site\u2019s\u00a0organisers\u00a0have said they will not host leaked material, but they will include information about them \u201cin an attempt to\u00a0quell the rampant misinformation that exists around some of her work\u201d.<\/p>\n

It is not affiliated with SOPHIE\u2019s estate or former\u00a0labels\u00a0and they say no revenue will be generated by the site, while\u00a0all of\u00a0its contents will remain freely available.<\/p>\n

They have also asked any fans who attended a SOPHIE show or worked with her, or have any information about her lost SoundCloud songs, should contact them\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When her death was announced,\u00a0SOPHIE\u2019s team hailed her as \u201ca pioneer of a new sound\u201d and an \u201cicon of liberation\u201d.\u00a0Christine and the Queens<\/a>\u00a0called SOPHIE \u201ca stellar producer, a visionary, a reference, adding that the artist \u201crebelled against the narrow, normative society\u201d.\u00a0Bring Me the Horizon<\/a>\u00a0frontman\u00a0Oli Sykes, meanwhile,\u00a0described SOPHIE\u2019s work as \u201cincredibly stimulating\u201d and \u201cpure proof that any genre can still be pushed in untapped ways\u201d,\u00a0concluding: \u201cIt was impossible not to be stimulated by Sophie once acquainted.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2024, a posthumous self-titled album was released, comprising music that she was working on at the time of her death.\u00a0In a three-star review<\/a>,\u00a0NME\u00a0wrote:\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s enough diamond material shining in the dirt to make this one of the most inventive posthumous albums that\u2019s been released in recent times \u2013 it\u2019s just a shame that the album doesn\u2019t fully execute SOPHIE\u2019s unique vision. But\u00a0perhaps that\u2019s\u00a0one more reason to fully treasure what we have left of her, and to do justice to the mark\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0left on pop forever.\u201d<\/p>\n
