But even if they had a long journey ahead of them with Bon Scott, they were going to do whatever they could to give America something to remember when they first brought their brand of mayhem to the other side of the world.

But America already had a lot of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time to their name. The British invasion had already been happening for a few years before the 1970s kicked in, but when looking at the other major acts springing up around that time, AC/DC weren’t equipped to play the game of AOR rock. Led Zeppelin was fun while they lasted, but Angus and Malcolm were far more interested in drawing from The Stones and Chuck Berry than whatever REO Speedwagon were doing.

They did end up making a few friends on the other side of the world, though. Aerosmith spoke the exact same language that they did when they started making their own bluesy flavour of rock and roll, and when Steven Tyler heard them, he knew that he wanted them on the bill whenever they played a festival. This was the kind of rock and roll that he loved, but Malcolm remembered having to shovel through a mountain of bullshit when they first came to the States and toured with Aerosmith.

Because as much as Aerosmith liked them, there were bound to be a few others that were scared of what they could do. The traditional rock and roll outfits were probably a little intimidated thinking that these Australian powerhouses were going to leave them in the dust, and while they could play bands like Eagles and Styx under the table, Malcolm had Tyler to thank as the band’s saviour when they were out touring with Foreigner.

No disrespect meant to Mick Jones and co., but when Malcolm first started a leg of shows with Foreigner as the headliner, Tyler became their biggest supporter when it came to keeping them on the bill, saying, “What really sealed it was when we were on a gig with Foreigner, who had a big hit record at the time and it was a big stadium. Aerosmith was on it, too. Foreigner didn’t want us on there for one reason or another, and it was Steven Tyler who said, ‘well, if you’re gonna drop them we’re not playing either.’ I thought that was brilliant. So when we look back we thought he was the man who helped the band when we first came to the States.”

Which is a much different tune than what most artists would be doing in that situation. Any other band would want to make sure to leave any other band in the dust, but Tyler knew a good rock and roll act when he heard one, and even when they got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he was the one on hand to induct them into the Hall.

That said, it’s not like Aerosmith couldn’t get intimidated every now and again, either. Even though they were more in the blues vein, they couldn’t handle when a progressive band like Rush was touring with them, to the point where Geddy Lee remembers having to serve Joe Perry up a nice plate of humble pie when he first started touring with them when he spent a few years away from the band.

But back when the band was still functioning, Aerosmith was still trying to deliver the best rock and roll show they could, even if it meant some bands blowing them offstage. The whole thing might have been a misunderstanding on the part of Foreigner, but even if they bumped the Australian rockers to the side, Tyler was going to remind everyone what rock and roll sounded like down under.

ADD AS A PREFERRED SOURCE ON GOOGLE

[28
27575,8421,96,27577,128,56282,56,54,55
0":"post-513808","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-music","8":"tag-ac-dc","9":"tag-america","10":"tag-entertainment","11":"tag-malcolm-young","12":"tag-music","13":"tag-steven-tyler","14":"tag-uk","15":"tag-united-kingdom","16":"tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
