{"id":514478,"date":"2026-04-05T16:23:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T16:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/514478\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T16:23:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T16:23:10","slug":"armagh-duo-to-trek-the-seven-peaks-in-memory-of-cousin-18-who-died-from-cardiac-arrest-armagh-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/514478\/","title":{"rendered":"Armagh duo to trek the seven peaks in memory of cousin (18) who died from cardiac arrest \u2013 Armagh I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1111\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/jamie-calvert-and-kris-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Two <a href=\"https:\/\/armaghi.com\/category\/news\/armagh-news\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Armagh<\/a> brothers are preparing to take on the famous Seven Peaks Challenge in memory of a beloved cousin who died suddenly at just 18 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie and Kris Calvert will don their boots and all-weather jackets on May 17 to take on the hefty Mourne Mountains trek, taking in seven of Northern Ireland\u2019s highest peaks in a single day.<\/p>\n<p>They do so to raise awareness and vital funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).<\/p>\n<p>CRY works to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people by raising awareness, funding research, providing heart screening programmes, and supporting families affected by these tragedies.<\/p>\n<p>In the UK, they say at least 12 young people \u2013 aged 35 and under \u2013 die every week from undiagnosed heart conditions\u2026 many of whom otherwise appeared fit and healthy.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Jamie and Kris know all too well the devastating effects of sudden cardiac death.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2015, their cousin Ally passed away suddenly at the age of 18 having suffered a cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Launching a GoFundMe page to support their challenge, Jamie explained: \u201cAlly suffered from an undiagnosed significantly enlarged heart which caused sudden arrhythmia death syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis had a detrimental impact on ourselves, family circle, and the wider community. A death at this age is heart-breaking and CRY are entirely dependent on the funds raised by its supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They will begin bright and early on the morning of May 17, and are praying for good weather!<\/p>\n<p>Five years ago, the pair raised \u00a33,000 for the charity with their three peaks hike and so this time they are hoping to best it in both miles and money!<\/p>\n<p>Their funding page is currently set with a humble target of just \u00a3300 to the benefit of CRY, however, they have already raised more than \u00a3200\u2026 and they hope this will only continue to climb.<\/p>\n<p>Of the generosity shown, Jamie adds: \u201cAny support, big or small, would mean a huge amount to us and will help motivate us every step of the way.
