{"id":514564,"date":"2026-04-05T17:25:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T17:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/514564\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T17:25:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T17:25:07","slug":"bryson-dechambeau-consoles-17-year-old-asterisk-tulley-after-augusta-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/514564\/","title":{"rendered":"Bryson DeChambeau consoles 17-year-old Asterisk Tulley after Augusta collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tearful teenager Asterisk Talley was comforted by Bryson DeChambeau after her nightmare back-nine collapse at the Augusta National Women\u2019s Amateur (ANWA).<\/p>\n<p>After Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00edn of Colombia claimed a runaway win, 17-year-old Talley was inconsolable, having started the day with a one-shot lead before slumping to a final-round 75 to finish tied for fourth.<\/p>\n<p>But as Talley left the course, she received words of encouragement and a hug from DeChambeau, who knows pain at Augusta National all too well. \u201cThis isn\u2019t going to define you,\u201d DeChambeau told the crestfallen teenager according to <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.golfchannel.com\/ncaa\/news\/this-isnt-going-to-define-you-bryson-dechambeau-encourages-crestfallen-asterisk-talley-at-augusta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the Golf Channel<\/a> in a moment not captured by the cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Back-to-back missed cuts in 2022 and 2023, including a round of 80, still haunt DeChambeau at Augusta. Last year, he started the final round two shots back from Rory McIlroy in the final group. But a double-bogey at 11 and a bogey at 12 would add to his <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/golf\/2023\/04\/09\/masters-2023-bryson-dechambeau-comments-missed-cut\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Masters\u2019 tales of woe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to reporters on the ground, DeChambeau spent at least two minutes talking to Talley, pointing at her heart and gesturing back down the hill. The pair hail from California and first crossed paths 10 years ago when DeChambeau saw something in her that felt familiar. \u201cTenacity,\u201d DeChambeau said. \u201cSame passion I had. It\u2019s what made me feel there were a lot of similarities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His words helped console the No 9-ranked amateur in the world rankings after an emotional finish to the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said keep my head high,\u201d Talley said of her conversation with DeChambeau. \u201cHe said he\u2019s been in my position before, and he knows how it feels, especially here. He said you\u2019re a great player.
