Running into a wild animal while on a hike can be either exciting or terrifying, but for a couple traveling in Nicaragua, it was absolutely adorable. @Angelinanicollle and her partner were hiking to a waterfall when a four-legged local wouldn’t leave them alone. It was a curious raccoon!<\/p>\n
The wild animal was clearly no stranger to the area, or to the people who hiked to the waterfall every day, and he had no qualms about making himself known to his new friends. Initially, Angelina was understandably confused, but it didn’t take long before she realized the raccoon was just trying to make friends… or was he?<\/p>\n
I’ve heard of dogs following hikers<\/a> along the trail, but never a raccoon! It’s so adorable that he follows new friends to and from the waterfall every day, and he even gets in the water for a swim! However, just when everyone is comfortable with him and distracted by the swim, his real plan sprang into action.<\/p>\n “Clearly, that’s the tour guide,” commented @senioritapella. That makes perfect sense! He knows the way to the falls like the back of his paw, and it’s only fair that he should be compensated for his efforts. Some are even ready to give him a hug! @Paigeerin45 realized that the real reason he makes new friends every day is that “people have been kind to him,” and we hope that’s always the case.<\/p>\n Are Raccoons Friendly?<\/p>\n This raccoon is a wild animal, but his friendly behavior has people wondering whether this is the norm. One viewer even commented, “I read that raccoons are starting to try to domesticate themselves<\/a>. This is literally what this smart boy is doing.”<\/p>\n That may be the case, but approaching a raccoon is never a good idea. They have sharp teeth and claws that can cause serious damage when they attack, so it’s best to keep your distance. Fortunately, most raccoons will avoid humans at all costs.
