Sky Ferreira<\/a>\u00a0has suggested that elements of\u00a0Charli XCX<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Wuthering Heights<\/a>\u2019 album were based on some of her \u201cold songs\u201d.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Brat<\/a>\u2019 star released the official soundtrack record for\u00a0Emerald Fennell\u2019s recent film<\/a>\u00a0in February, including collaborations with\u00a0The Velvet Underground<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0John Cale <\/a>and with Ferreira herself<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ferreira was credited as a guest feature on the track \u2018Eyes\u00a0Of\u00a0The\u00a0World\u2019,\u00a0but now in a series of Instagram messages, Ferreira has appeared to imply that some of the music on the soundtrack album was taken\u00a0from her own original work.<\/p>\n

One social media user had quoted an \u201cindustry insider\u201d that suggested that on top of \u2018Eyes\u00a0Of\u00a0The\u00a0World\u2019,\u00a0the\u00a0intro to the\u00a0song \u2018Chains Of Love<\/a>\u2019 was \u201cripped\u201d from \u2018Ancient Idols\u2019,\u00a0a\u00a0Ferreira\u00a0demo dating back to around 2018 that had been intended for\u00a0her still-unreleased second album \u2018Masochism\u2019<\/a>. The same user also suggested that \u2018Altars\u2019 from \u2018Wuthering Heights\u2019 was based on a Ferreira demo from 2015.<\/p>\n

Ferreira responded to the user by writing: \u201cYour industry \u2018insider\u2019 is wrong. Close but wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a follow-up comment, she said: \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0not going to get into\u00a0it\u00a0but it was\u00a0definitely more\u00a0than an intro. I have proof of everything with dates. It\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0worth the trouble\u00a0bc\u00a0I know how the world works.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charli XCX has not commented on Ferreira\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n

Ferreira and XCX\u2019s connection dates back many years.\u00a0The two joined forces in 2019 for the single \u2018Cross You Out\u2019<\/a>, and speaking to a fan at the time who reached out to ask what it was like to work together, Charli responded: \u201cAmazing. Sky is brilliant. She has taste and knows what she wants.\u201d<\/p>\n

Back in summer 2024,\u00a0Charli discussed her love of Rihanna, and shared how she ranked her above all other pop stars, with Ferreira being the only exception<\/a>. Explaining the decision at the time, the\u00a0\u2018Brat\u2019<\/a>\u00a0star said that while she was \u201cthe biggest Rihanna stan ever\u201d,\u00a0she \u201creally loves Sky [because] she\u2019s one of a kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later that year,\u00a0Charli reacted to the news that Ferreira had recorded a track for the A24 film\u00a0Babygirl,<\/a>\u00a0starring Nicole Kidman, called \u2018Leash\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was already so excited for Babygirl but now we get Babygirl + a new song from Sky: omg. stan mode activated,\u201d she wrote on X at the time.<\/p>\n

In recent years,\u00a0Ferreira has been \u201cworking\u201d on taking back ownership of her songs<\/a>\u00a0after her label, Capitol Records, dropped her. In November 2023, it was reported that her\u00a0name had been removed from the Capitol roster<\/a>\u00a0on its official website.<\/p>\n
