A new trailer for Lord of the Flies has been released, and it paints a grim, intense picture of survival gone wrong. This latest adaptation of Lord of the Flies is headed to Netflix on May 4, bringing a fresh and unsettling take on the classic story that still very relevant today.

This version comes from Jack Thorne, the Emmy-winning creator behind Adolescence and Enola Holmes, with Marc Munden directing. Together, they’re diving deep into the psychological breakdown of a group of boys left to fend for themselves after a plane crash strands them on a remote tropical island.

The trailer leans into a growing sense of dread as order begins to unravel. What starts as a fight for survival quickly spirals into something far more dangerous, as fear, power struggles, and primal instincts take over. The story hasn’t lost its edge.

The cast is made up of a group of rising young actors including Winston Sawyers, Lox Pratt, David McKenna, and Ike Talbut, alongside Thomas Connor, Noah Flemyng, Cassius Flemyng, Cornelius Brandreth, and Tom Page-Turner. The ensemble looks fully committed to capturing the emotional volatility that defines the story.

Thorne opened up about the themes driving this adaptation, saying: “As a society, we’re having a conversation right now about boys. We’re losing a generation of boys, and we’re losing it because of the hate they are ingesting — because it is an answer to their loneliness and isolation.”

That perspective seems to be baked into the limited series, giving it a modern lens while staying true to Golding’s original message about the darkness that can emerge when structure disappears.

The score also adds serious weight to the experience, with music from Hans Zimmer (Dune, The Dark Knight), alongside Kara Talve and Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White Lotus, Smile).

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the four-part limited series is backed by Thorne’s One Shoe Films, with Munden and producers Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell from Eleven, the team behind Sex Education.

The series already premiered internationally earlier this year through the BBC in the UK and Stan in Australia, and now it’s finally making its way to a wider audience.
