WASHINGTON \u2014 The White House\u2019s new app<\/a> aiming to deliver news and spin directly from President Trump\u2019s team has notched about 2 million downloads, according to data shared with The Post.<\/p>\n

The sleek smartphone app, which combines news announcements with social media posts, photos and livestreams, launched on March 27.<\/p>\n

It has been downloaded 1.4 million times by Android users as of April 4 and 436,000 times by Apple users as of April 5, for a combined total of 1.84 million, an official said.<\/p>\n

The total may have already crossed 2 million given the reporting lag. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what exactly accounts for the download discrepancy between device type. iPhone users comprise the majority of the US smartphone market, with Android dominant globally.<\/p>\n

The app promises news \u201cstraight from the source, no filter\u201d and allows users to set notifications to buzz their phone for \u201creal-time breaking news alerts straight from the White House on key developments, executive actions, and national priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Its description teases plans for users to \u201csubmit your questions, feedback, or messages directly to President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

The app has been downloaded nearly 2 million times.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time that Trump and his team have innovated their way around gatekeepers \u2014 with Trump building one of the largest following on Twitter during his first term, issuing direct-to-the-public posts multiple times a day.<\/p>\n

Trump launched his own Truth Social<\/a> network in 2022 after he was booted by most Big Tech giants including Facebook and YouTube following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.<\/p>\n

The new White House app isn\u2019t a neat match for traditional news services \u2014 meaning that even supporters of the president are likely to need supplemental content from other sources, especially if they\u2019re seeking divergent viewpoints or a large volume of reading material.<\/p>\n

The \u201cnews\u201d tab included only one press release from Monday \u2014 touting the \u201cheroic rescue\u201d of two airmen downed in Iran \u2014 and one Sunday, featuring an Easter message promoting religious liberty for Christians, with additional briefings, official actions and fact sheets posted.<\/p>\n

A \u201cwire\u201d ticker at the top of the news section includes links to outside sources, such as a New York Times story on how the \u201cTrump Administration Celebrates Good Friday in Official Messages\u201d and a Reuters story on accelerating job growth.<\/p>\n

A social media tab, meanwhile, pulls from multiple accounts, including the X feeds for both @WhiteHouse and @RapidResponse 47, which serves up a firehouse of timely video clips featuring the president.<\/p>\n

X posts promoting the app<\/a> have been tagged with a community note linking to a technical analysis <\/a>that claims the app \u201ctracks users\u2019 precise location every 4.5 minutes (foreground) via third-party OneSignal, syncing coordinates to external servers despite \u2018no filter\u2019 claims.\u201d<\/p>\n
