good sources are oily fish like tuna and salmon, and walnuts.

Avoid sugary drinks and processed foods and only consume alcohol sparingly.

Above all, keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

This is important as it thins out the mucus lining in the airways and lungs making breathing easier.

Exercise.

You may need to avoid anything too hectic if you have dodgy knees or hips, but basically do all you can to keep active.

Walking is good for increasing lung expansion.

Dance of all kinds is great.

 Singing too is really beneficial.

There are many terrific choirs in Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex.

 Why not join one?

Also, yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi are all helpful to the lungs because deep and effective breathing is very much part of the sessions.

Try working out initially by watching a YouTube online.

And then you could progress to a real class.

No one has to travel far to find a good one these days in our region.

Make sure your vaccinations are up to date – Covid, pneumonia, flu jabs, etc.

You may also be offered a vaccine to prevent RSV.

This stands for Respiratory Syncytial Virus and is responsible for many chest conditions that require treatment in hospital.

Practise deep breathing.

This can really help your lungs as well as your stress levels and sleep.

All you do is to stand or sit quietly for at least five minutes and breathe in through the nose to the count of seven and out through pursed lips to the count of 11.

This gets us out of the habit of shallow breathing and encourages us to fully empty our lungs with every breath.

Do a session twice daily if you can.

Fresh air is good for us, but you may want to avoid exceptionally cold or hot days.

And in cities and towns take a route away from traffic if you can and walk in parks where the air is cleaner and healthier.

I know so many individuals who have succumbed to them this year, and who have been really poorly.…

[10
59,102,56,54,55
0":"post-516866","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-health","8":"tag-gb","9":"tag-health","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
