{"id":517373,"date":"2026-04-07T09:47:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T09:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/517373\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T09:47:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T09:47:11","slug":"village-near-york-named-as-one-of-the-poshest-in-britain-yorkmix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/517373\/","title":{"rendered":"Village near York named as one of the \u2018poshest\u2019 in Britain | YorkMix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">One of Britain\u2019s poshest newspapers has named Britain\u2019s poshest villages \u2013 and one of them is near York. <\/p>\n<p>The Daily Telegraph has listed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/money\/property\/poshest-village-how-expensive-buy-county-britain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">49 villages in its guide<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve based the picks on a combination of the highest house prices, a lively community, a thriving village hall, great pubs, local shops and sporting facilities \u2013 aspects that make a great village,\u201d the authors state. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also took into account other factors, such as whether the location sits in a bucolic setting, has an interesting heritage, and whether it ticks the boxes of the classic village, with a green, duck pond and perhaps thatched cottages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the villages chosen is Newton on Derwent, off the A1079 east of York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetween the historic city of York and the market town of Pocklington, where there is a well-known independent co-ed day and boarding school, Newton on Derwent is a friendly village with farming roots,\u201d the guide says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Methodist Church serves the community well, with a Saturday caf\u00e9, art shows and weekly whist drive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe local cricket club, Woodhouse Grange, is considered one of the best in the area.
