{"id":517429,"date":"2026-04-07T10:34:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/517429\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:34:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:34:13","slug":"having-a-visible-difference-helps-me-stand-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/517429\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Having a visible difference helps me stand out&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Growing up in the 1980s and 1990s, Jodi said people had less of an understanding of visible skin differences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Children were pulled away from me during swimming lessons or on a beach holiday, because their parents were unaware of &#8216;what is this?&#8217; on this girl&#8217;s skin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She said she was three years behind in school after having taken time off for surgery, which left her feeling &#8220;isolated&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Aged 16, she was told by a consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital her condition was called CMN and there were other people younger than her with the condition, so her family and her agreed to talk to them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The phone started ringing and hasn&#8217;t stopped since.
