{"id":519173,"date":"2026-04-08T08:22:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T08:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/519173\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T08:22:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T08:22:07","slug":"uk-weather-warmth-forecast-to-peak-at-26c-before-temperatures-plunge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/519173\/","title":{"rendered":"UK weather: Warmth forecast to peak at 26C before temperatures plunge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">All four nations of the UK recorded their highest temperature of the year so far on Tuesday after very warm air was dragged in from continental Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The addition of the foehn effect &#8211; a warming wind on the leeside of a mountain &#8211; meant that north-west Wales saw the highest temperatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wales &#8211; 24.8C (76.7F) &#8211; Mona, Isle of Anglesey<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">England &#8211; 22.5C (72.5F) &#8211; Merryfield, Somerset<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scotland &#8211; 22.5C (72.5F) &#8211; Kinloss, Moray<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Northern Ireland &#8211; 19.0C (66.2F) &#8211; Armagh, County Armagh<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Most of England and Wales will be dry and sunny again on Wednesday with a gentle south to south-easterly breeze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Some cloud will move into parts of northern England and Wales, especially in the afternoon, and it won&#8217;t be as warm along western coasts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The focus of the highest temperatures on Wednesday will be the Midlands, East Anglia and south-east England, possibly reaching 26C (79F) in some localised spots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This is around 10C above average for early April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The last time before this week that 25C or more was recorded in the UK was 19 September 2025, when temperatures peaked at 27.8C at St James&#8217;s Park, London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Around this time in April in 2017 and 2020 25C (77F) was recorded, but last year that temperature was not reached until the last day of the month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The highest temperature ever recorded in the UK in April was 29.4C (84.9F) measured in London in 1949. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">There is some way to go to beat that but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/weather\/articles\/clyzn3qn61no\" class=\"ssrcss-51189d-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spring is the fastest warming season due to climate change<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scotland and Northern Ireland will not be as warm.
