RoboCop is one of the best sci-fi\/action movies of all time, which is probably why Prime Video is apparently greenlighting yet another try at a reboot of the ’80s masterpiece, this time as a streaming series.<\/p>\n
Amazon’s plans to reboot the series were first reported in 2023<\/a>, with The Ankler<\/a> now reporting that plans for a RoboCop reboot show are now moving forward. No other details about what to expect from a potential RoboCop streaming series have been reported.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This would be the second try at a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s social satire opus, following 2014’s ill-fated reboot movie which put Joel Kinnaman in the leading role and forgot to include anything cool or funny or interesting. It currently sits at a 50% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n Article continues below <\/p>\n You may like<\/p>\n If you can’t tell, I’m a huge fan of the original RoboCop. It’s one of my favorite films. I watch it multiple times a year. It’s one of Verhoeven’s best movies, expertly commenting on the dehumanization of the justice system and the corporatization of public good while also delivering some of the most hardcore action and sci-fi body horror of its era.<\/p>\n RoboCop has been adapted to television before. Following the original RoboCop movie trilogy (I can only really recommend the first one), a TV version aired for 22 episodes. There was also an ’80s animated series produced by Marvel, and a few other spin-offs and side projects that are all generally forgettable.<\/p>\n I’ll be honest, I’m not rooting for another try at remaking RoboCop. No one outside of Paul Verhoeven has seemed to really understand the best and most compelling parts of the original film, and I certainly have little faith that a 2026 take will return to the show’s roots as a criticism of US culture.<\/p>\n There’s no word yet on when the new RoboCop show may move into production.
