A former bin man has shared some helpful tips for making sure your rubbish is collected, as they claim many households complain when their waste isn’t picked up due to a common mistake<\/p>\n

A former bin man<\/a> has revealed the best way to dispose of your rubbish, claiming many households ‘complain’ when their waste isn’t collected due to a common mistake.<\/a><\/p>\n

Keeping track of the correct collection days for each of your bins can be a real challenge, whether it’s general waste, food, or recyclables, as they’re all frequently picked up on different dates and schedules. This means that if you miss a collection or put out the wrong bin, you could be waiting weeks for it to be emptied, or even have to fork out for private waste collectors. The alternative, of course, is a trip to the tip.<\/p>\n

In a bid to help households avoid these all-too-common blunders, a number of refuse collectors <\/a>have taken to social media to share their top tips <\/a>for making collections as easy as possible<\/a> for everyone concerned.<\/p>\n

One such example appeared on Reddit<\/a>, where a user posted on the ‘AskUK’ forum with a question that may well leave you surprised.<\/p>\n

The Reddit user began by explaining that they don’t always wheel their bins out to the kerbside for collection, primarily because they are only ‘half full’ of rubbish. As a result, the user said they felt as though they were ‘saving a job’ for the binmen during recycling collections.<\/p>\n

They asked: “I was wondering if you appreciate people who did this or if it’s a pain when they put their bins out the following week and they’re full? Or do you not really care?”<\/p>\n

Some users were left puzzled that the poster would even contemplate not putting their bins out, as they couldn’t fathom waiting another two or three weeks until the next collection in case they started to smell or overflow.<\/p>\n

The bin men, however, appeared largely appreciative of the gesture, as some went on to share why they won’t collect it if the bin isn’t full.<\/p>\n

One person wrote: “Was a bin man. People complain if they put it out and it doesn’t get emptied, no matter how little stuff is in it. If there is just a tied-up bag in it, they just reach in, grab it and add it to a neighbour’s bin and tip that instead.”<\/p>\n

They went on to add: “If you think you can last until next bin day then just don’t put it out.”<\/p>\n

Another chimed in: “Yes we appreciate it!! We can get through our round quicker, thank you! I can only speak for my crew but we wish more people did this.”<\/p>\n

Further users echoed this sentiment, with one commenting: “Food is the one bin (ok, one of two for people with medical waste bins) that actually does need emptying every week.<\/p>\n

“I used to do this, leave the bin out when it was half full, but the bin men never collected it. So now I won’t leave the bin out until it is full,” another user remarked.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, numerous UK councils have confirmed that refuse workers will refuse to collect overflowing bins, or when more than one bin requires emptying simultaneously.
