\n Whether I’m talking to residents in Quarry Bank, or hearing from families in Cradley, the question is always the same. People want to do the right thing, but the system has made it needlessly hard.\n<\/p>\n
\n What goes in which bin? Why can I recycle this in Sandwell but not in Dudley? Why does it keep changing? These are not unreasonable questions.\n<\/p>\n
\n They are the entirely predictable result of a decade of stalled recycling rates, inconsistent rules and a postcode lottery that left households across England confused and frustrated.\n<\/p>\n
\n Fourteen years of drift, inconsistency and nobody stopping to ask whether any of it still makes sense \u2013 has led to doing the right thing requiring more effort than it should.\n<\/p>\n
\n The previous government left behind stalled recycling rates and a plan that would have required households to manage up to seven separate bins.\n<\/p>\n
\n Researchers have labelled this kind of accumulated friction the “annoyance economy”, the invisible tax on people’s time and patience levied by systems designed without them in mind.\n<\/p>\n
\n I came to Westminster to fight for Halesowen, and an important part of that is fighting the day-to-day hassle that make life more inconvenient than it needs to be.\n<\/p>\n
\n Whether it\u2019s striking a deal to eliminate the “8am scramble” for GP appointments or making it easier to get Delay Repay for late trains this Labour government is fighting for everyday people, in their everyday lives, cutting through the friction with common-sense solutions, and making our daily admin easier.\n<\/p>\n
\n That is why I am backing the Labour Government’s new Simpler Recycling reforms, which came into force last week.\n<\/p>\n
\n From now on, every household in England will be able to recycle the same core materials – plastic, metal, glass, paper, card, and food waste – regardless of where they live. The same rules for homes and businesses.\n<\/p>\n
\n No more checking what your council accepts. No more confusion at the kerb. A clear, consistent national standard, with flexibility for councils to deliver it in the way that works best locally.\n<\/p>\n
